  • BCAA question

    I'm thinking of buying some of TP's BCAA's.

    Here's my situation: I'm starting a personal training job, which is gonna keep me on my feet constantly, and probably even doing some exercises with the clients, especially if I'm teaching a class.

    When I use the BCAA's would it be better:

    a) To use them just pre/post/intra workout along with my MG blend
    b) between meals, throughout the day
    c) With meals

    I know the question is elementary, but I've just read so many different things, and a lot of it is contradictory.

    The small amount about BCAA's that I know is that they must be taken alone, and on an empty stomach, otherwise you lose the fast absorption capabilities of them. That being said, IMO then I like pre/intra/post the best for me. I know some people use them while dieting in between meals.
    Heavy squats fix everything.

      I would emphasize pre/during/post workout and between meals that are farther than 3 hours apart

      if you have clients for 4 hours strait, you could eat a bigger meal, have some BCAA between the middle two clients, and then eat your next meal when you're done

        I don't know what you should do, but I eat every 4 hours and have bcaa shakes in between at the two hour mark. I love it.

              I use the BCAA plus from TP, grape, and it is awesome. I would use alone but not around the MG blend. Maybe use a scoop PWO and in during your longer client sessions.

                I workout MWF around 11am and take a pre-workout around 1030am and MG Powdered Muscle + Leuc-Sane during my workout. I'm sure that's not ideal "spacing" but I'm lazy and just dump it all in together. Oh, and an extra 10g glutamine.

                    I like Ben's advice here. No need to take more than 5-6g of BCAAs at a time though. Studies are showing that roughly 3g of leucine maxes out skeletal muscle protein synthesis. You'll get 3g of leucine in 6g of most BCAA powders

                          3g for the average person, but in reality it's dependent on bodyweight....somewhere in the ballpark of 0.05g per kg BW

                            I prefer to take my BCAA's pre and post workout and I agree with the others that I have seen studies showing 3-4g of Leucine seems to maximize translation initiation of skeletal muscle protein synthesis and it generally lasts 3-4 hours so I don't see the point of taking during the workout.

                            I personally have been curious of re-enforcing my 6 daily meals with 3g Leucine to make sure to maximize anabolism at every meal and see what happens.
                            If it's not hard it's not worth doing...
