  • Tanning and Metabolism

Is there any increase in metabolism after exposure to Ultraviolit Radiation? Especially If one went from Oh I don't know Colorado Winter to Tanning twice a week and finally 4 times a week. How is the energy that is absorbed released?

That is a good question. I looked through some of my literature and did not see anything about external UV and metabolism. There are metablic changes when the blood is irradiated with a photoluminescent device, but that is totally different.

I would expect that there are some slight metabolic and hormonal changes....probably beneficial.

just a note here...I use a tanning bed in the winter months...the bed I use is a "high pressure" bed that only uses UVA rays. it is the UVB that causes burning, pink color, itching, etc.

The high pressure beds do not burn....at all. if you are pastly white and use a UVA only bed you won't burn....and you only have to go once a week or 10 days. I go every 10 days and have a dark bronze tan...actually, I haven't been in 3 weeks and I am still dark.
The high pressure beds are about 170 times more powerful than a standard Wolfe bed, and it does not burn. Supposedly one of the Dermatology Associations has signed off on this type of bed . I will call my tanning center tomarrow and get more details.

I need to find a tanning place with UVA only beds, because I will burn easily. Not sure what happened to me; as a child I never burned and only got dark, WTF??!!!

anyway, I have to be careful now.

Being from Fla, I am somewhat an expert on tanning...... I think the only thing you may get from tanning besides darker skin tone is at first some dehydration of the skin then followed by some swelling of the skin. All in all though you always look leaner when tanned!

I never knew about UVA/UVB rays and tanning/burning, etc. So, if one burns easily, they should probably find a place that has "high pressure" beds that only emits UVA rays?

Me Too...5 or 6 hours in the sun feels sooo good..But its nice to go for only 20 minutes to maintain at the salon...Especially when time is of the essence :phone:

There is some research investigating hormones, including thyroid hormones and seasonal affective disorder, which can be treated with light therapy. I don't know the lit. well enough (not really at all - just that its out there) to talk about it with any authority.

Your metabolic rate will be increased in a tanning bed, or whenever your body is hot, d/t the Q10 effect, which dictates that enzymatically driving reactions proceed more quickly when temperature is elevated. This effect alone is not enough to make a difference when dieting though.

                      Randy and all,

I have read a good deal about light therapy...pretty interesting really. I am not at home so I can't reference any research tonight...but I will make a thread for this on monday or tuesday.

I do recall Dr. Douglass, MD, making reference to the observation that in practically all, if not all, elderly people with chronic disease that the pineal gland is calcified and moved off of it's center in the body. The pineal is thought of, or at least was thought of, as a leftover from evolution. The pineal is a photo recepter as light is directed to it from the eyes.
Wearing sunglasses that do not permit penetration of UV light through this channel of photo reception could be very detrimental to ones health.

Something else that is very interesting is some work that Dr. John Ott has done with light therapy. Ott is the one that invented time lapse photography years ago. He did an experiment on children with behavioral problems in school. He came up with a simple theory that the children were deprived of light because the blinds were pulled shut in the classroom. After he removed the blinds and full spectrum light was introduced to the classroom, the children were very much behaved almost instantly. Could contribute to ADD. I am sad to say that a study was performed as a follow up to Ott's work and was intentionally flawed to disprove his findings.

I did read one study that involved hampsters. When a family of hampsters were exposed to incandescent light the male would canibalize the young....however when they were exposed to full spectrum light they remained docile. The researchers would change the lighting by turning a switch and the males performance was like Jekyll and Hyde.

Then there is the topic of color therapy-really impressive stuff. Doc by the name of Denshali(sp?) wrote a huge 1200 page journal early in the last century with some very impressive results concerning disease states. We see colors as just that-colors...but what they really are is portions of the electromagnetic spectrum that oscillate at differnt frequencies. The curative measures of such frequencies is unlimited.
For instance....it is entirely possible to eliminate every pathogen and cancer from the body by manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum without harming even one healthy cell in the body. Not only is it possible, but it has been accomplished by a scientist in the 1930's. He cured 14 of 16 patients of advanced cancer...then made some modifications to his instrument and cured the other 2 patients! A 100% efficiency for an "incurable disease" is not bad.. It is well known that all pathogens resonate at very low frequencies -in the 300-700 range-and the human organism resonates at between 8500 and 10,000.

I am glad to say that some of this info is being reinvestigated by doc's and scientists alike. I have made contact with an MD that uses this type of therapy...I am going to interview him in the next 2 weeks or so.

Also I am going to visit a clinic in Mexico where a Canadian naturopath with a Ph.D in biochemistry has set up a clinic and uses a device that uses the electromagnetic frequencies to eliminate pathogens and cancer also....and the amazing thing is you can go to Radio Shack and for less than 20 bucks build the same exact unit-I have one myself..very easy to build.
I did read where a skeptic at a US university tested the device on cancer cultures and recorded a 41 percent success in destroying the cancer...he said with some fine tuning the device could surely kill all cancers.

And of course there is the miraculous therapy that I have written about a good bit and used as a patient....Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation. Perhaps all of the above doesn't even need to be investigated as this therapy is truly the magic bullet to practically all disease-especially in cases of infection and cancer. Of course when H202 is wedded to UBI there is not a pathogen or cancer that can survive...absolutely none. Even organic toxins such as bee stings, snake bites, toxicity from bacteria-all are immediately neutralized by UBI. And what is particularly exciting is that in the cases of blood irradiation, only the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum has been used....as I said before the benefits of light therapy are unlimited. UV has a very real possibility of slowing the aging process, as many patients have experienced the changing of hair color from gray to its prior color, regained elasticity of skin and vascular tissue, etc..
One theory as to aging is that cells die off due to oxygen definciency (the same way the immune system is impaired..."blocked oxidation"). The oxygen content of the air we breathe is about 60% of what it was only 200 years ago....Somethin fascinating and not completely understood is the oxygenation of the blood for well over a month after instituting UBI...this is well documented by MD's in the 1930' and 40's. And no pathogen or cancer can survive in a well oxygenated bloodstream (the main reason that I use it...and I have not had any infection, acute or otherwise, since I began using UBI-and I have experienced the disappearance of allergies, which is impressive as allergies are developed as we age).
The fact that "light therapy" is not at the forefront of medicine today, despite all of the research and clinical observation that favors it, is without a doubt the greatest tragedy of the 20th century.

Why is it your metobolism speeds up in cold weather to keep your core temp up, AND it speeds up when your temp is elevated as you say? It would seem to reason that hot weather would slow metobolism. ie all your equatorial peoples
are very lean. Now, which came first--the chicken or the egg----meaning--- are equatorial people lean due to the heat o r due to a diet low in complex carbs? OR do they eat fewer carbs because the dont need the body fat due to the temperate climate they live in? HMMMMMM

Im curious your take on this......

I can always count on an intellectual volley with my Bro Randy.

Your Metobolism only speeds up when you are actually cold and shivering. When it is cold and you are in the house in-active your metabolism slows. Warm weather encourages people to be more active and it follows they are less fat.

Hey Bro....the name of the naturopath is Dr. Hulda Regehr Clark. She calls her device "the zapper".
You can order her book "the cure for all Diseases" or another book of hers "the cure for all Cancers" by calling ProMotion Publishing 1-800-231-1776

The schematic for the zapper is in both of these books, complete with part numbers from Radio Shack. You can buy the parts and assemble it yourself if you have a little experience with electronics....or take it to an electronics shop and for 25 bucks or so they will put it together for ya.

Her books are very interesting to read, and identifies the culprits that ruin our immunity.
Admittedly it would be difficult to live a life as clean as she recommends (we are talking about alot more than just diet) but she has put forth some interesting info.
She has a clinic in Mexico...I am planning a Mexico trip to visit some impressive clinics...Hers, Donsbach's, Max Gerson's, and I will also visit Dr. Burdzinsky in Houston TX...he invented antieplastion(sp) therapy...a naturopathic approach that is going through FDA clinical trials now.
If that number for Dr. Clark is not correct just let me know....I have a good bit of her info and can get current numbers.
