It might sound like a trivial question, but my current training shoes are ready to blow at the seams so I will need a new pair shortly. I can pretty much get by with a normal gym shoe on other days, but I need something that can take the strain of leg day while giving my poor, abused feet a solid, cushioned base. What is the best shoe I can get that can take some punishment and do its job?

IM^, I have a 13EEEE and very very flat foot, with no arch what so ever, I have to have my New Balance shoes with no screen or mesh on them and leather all the way around the bottom portions and especially over the toe and front of the foot area, I need to have some serious support, but not like boots, I need some flexability as well as support.
I do not break shoes in, I break them out...

me and In-Human are the same..flat foot and no arch what so ever...so u could imagine the hell i go thru when doing the hours of cardio on that treadmill, hehe...
But i also wear new balance sneakers, they're very comfortable...and on a heavy leg day i use Nike Air Jordans, real comfy....

I may have to try these. They seem to be a cross between a boot and a sneaker.

Another very good brand of boots is BATES. They make a variety of uniform boots like Magnum does and they also make footwear that look pretty much like athletic shoes/hiking boots but are constructed like a boot. Magnum probably carries them also. Here's a link to the BATES version I'm talking about.

There are a few good places to buy them on the internet (better than retail prices). Here is one of them. But do a search, there are others too.

BATES and Magnum and others I'm sure, are good choices for footwear. I've had good luck with BATES. They are VERY comfortable and tough as hell. If you think about it, these Brands are made for people that abuse the s--t out of their feet and/or are on their feet all day/night. They're tough. Try 'em.Last edited by The Munster; 08-08-2004, 12:42 PM.

Originally posted by IM^I share your pain, In-Human, like you, I have soles as flat as an architect's drawing board. Which is why I really need some good shoes; normal sneakers hurt like hell to squat with after a while. So it seems like it's a toss up between your New Balance shoes, KR's Magnums and Munster's Bates. Hmmm...which should I go for, I wonder...
