I always find this so interesting. (I would be even more so, if I weren't carb-depleted...) Years ago, this was kind of annoying, but its become so common that I'm just kind of fascinated by it (plus, I kind of expect it...)
So, as I near my show and my conditioning comes in, others' perception of what's going on with my body (or rather their lack of perception) is baffling.
I'm in the gym this morning, doing a depletion workout w/ headphones on and a personal trainer at the gym, who I have known for about 2 years and knows I am a bodybuilder (God, I hope you can tell... LOL), starts calling my name.
I pull off my earphones and she comes over with a very concerned look on her face and tells me I've gotten really "slender" and wonders if I'm OK. She was genuinely concerned and serious.
It did not occur to her whatsoever that perhaps I was training for a show and that it wasn't by accident or some mishap that I happened to have shredded glutes, pecs, triceps, etc. and veins running all over my abs... I have done 2 shows since I've been training at this gym and she's seen me throughout both preps... Another one of the trainers there is also doing the same show and I know she's seen him change over the past 2 months, but nonetheless...
I guess the strangest thing about it all is how much it reminds me how far "out there" hardcore, competitive bodybuilding really is from the mainstream public. The person above has been personal training in gyms for years (naturally, she displays her Swiss Ball certification proudly over her desk, but I've never held that against her - she's a really nice woman), but, even being what you might think of as at least somewhat of an "insider" she has NO CLUE about what bodybuilding, muscle gain, ridiculous fat loss, extreme training and dieting, etc. are all about. No one iota...
Anyhow, I'm VERY glad to have IM (and you too, IM^ LOL) and other places on the 'net where fellow freaks and freakettes can congregate.

P.S. It is good to be a freak. :p
