  • Steroids in the service?

What brings this to mind is my sister's brother. He just got done with 4 years in the Marines. I went to high school with the guy and he was rail thin. Now the man has one of the most impressive bodies I have ever seen if he is in fact natty. I beleive my suspitions of use to be correct though.

My question for anyone in or ret. form the service, how easy could you get away with using? My buddy that's currently in the Navy said it would be easy. You just shouldn't keep it with you in your living area. He also said they'll randomly search things, even your person if there is some suspition. He suggested the best way would be to keep it in your car. Or if you must bring it in, bring it in a McDonald's bag or something. They'll never loo in there.

I don't know, just looking for experiences or opinions.

When I was in, there was a never any chance that you would get searched or suspected of anything unless you gave them good reason. Getting big was not one of them. So to answer the question...Yes it would be easy to use and not get caught..

As long as you arent stupid about it and keep your mouth shut, you will probably have no problems. People will see you in the gym busting your ass, but that isnt unlike 50-60% of the other Marines.

Keeping it in your car is an absolute No-No...coming on/off base, anyone is subject to search, particularly when the threat level goes up. Its a pain in the ass trying to get back on. As for living quarters, if you live on base in the barracks, there are room inspections once a week AND there could be random inspections as well..not necessarily looking for contraband, but just for overall cleanliness, etc. If you live off base, there are no inspections.

Unless something is found, you wont be tested and probably wont be questioned. However, the CO can, at his discretion, order a test, but in my 5 years in, I never heard or saw anything like that.

a-ha! this is where i come in.....I am in the Army and i have had 2, count them, 1,2 steroid tests. i failed both of them as i wasn't on anything (or have ever).

after airborne school, i was in such kick ass "runner's" shape that when i started lifting and eating again, i blew up, like 30 lbs in no time at all. then the CO had me into his office and said that i was getting a piss test for steroids. he did this 2x in the span of six months.

in the army, it is the same as the Marines as far as "health and welfare" inspections. they are pretty often and the morning inspections and command group inspections are pretty common.
personally, i have had 3 other friends that have had the steroid tests taken. so it isnt' common....but i have seen it.

apparently, if you are just careful and make sure your uniform is a little larger......you are in no trouble at all.

        hope this helps,

I believe the testing is pretty expensive. I would rather them spend that money on tanks and such...or give the troops a raise you know, than spending it on testing for AAS.

A while back I had a conversation with a retired Lt Col in the Marines. I asked him about the testing for AAS, and if guys got singled out by being big mo'fers.

He told me he never cared about it. He looked at me and asked me-

"If you are in a fire fight with the enemy do you want a freak that is benching 4 plates for reps covering your ass or a pencil neck???"

            Good point.

Raul-Lack of home support was the single largest reason for loosing that war. Had the US stuck behind its troops the war would of ended sooner. However the Communist Leadership knew they didn't have to win just keep from loosing to win.

Am I misinterpreting what you posted here...you failed both tests, meaning they showed that you were "on" something when you really werent? OR you failed the test, meaning you passed, by way of nothing being in your system?

Damn, two tests.....never heard of that. CO must have something against ya..

yeah, thanks Rick....errrh, Richard. i failed meaning that i tested negative. and the only reason why i was tested so many times was because i had a CO that NEVER saw me work out because i utilized all the gyms on post because there were different equipment at each one (plus he didnt' ever go near the squat rack). so he had reason to test me, i was getting large and he NEVER saw me lift, plus he never worked with the soldiers, so he never saw the tupperware containers with food stacked in my cooler that i took around everywhere.
then.....we had a change of command and the old CO told the new CO to test me based on principle, show the company he wasn't a pushover (or so other non com's tell me)....but it all worked out. by them testing me and me continually failing the tests, it just provoked more enthusiasm for what i did.....i got a lot of flack for carrying around the cooler everywhere and sweating all the time.....

                              response to original question

I was in the Marine Corps and I never saw or heard of anyone get tested for steroids. We were all drug tested once and it was the whole company; no one was singled out.

I lived in the barracks back then as well. We had room inspections but not the kind where they search your stuff. They were just inspecting for cleanliness and proper setup of your locker.

Do not keep your stuff in your car!!!!!
