For all of the competitors out there (and if you don't compete you can still chime in), I have a question for you:
If you qualify for national level competition right now, you have 2 years from the date of qualification to compete nationally and then you lose the qualification and have to requalify.
Personally, I don't like the current 2 year deal. First, I would wonder if you should ever have to requalify. I mean, the current state of bodybuilding at the National level is going down as far as contestants at these shows (evidenced by the Jr. USA this year). It MAY increase contestant numbers.
More importantly, I don't think it is fair to competitors who have NOT qualified and are competing to do so when a national level competitor comes back to compete in his or her state show only because they have to requalify. I have seen this time and time again where guys will not get their qualification because they were beaten by someone who only competed for the requalification. It doesn't seem terribly fair.
I wonder, either you qualify and you are qualified forever or at least longer than 2 years - maybe 5 years? 2 years just isn't all that long and if you can't compete in that time frame for some reason, you are screwed and have to go back and requalify.
What do you guys think?
