I just count protien grams and everything else is fair game. I try not to let it get to out of hand but I get fat when I'm bulking.

I've found that if I just eat anything most of it winds up on my belly. I've got to eat as clean as possible with a couple of cheat meals a week.

Depends, if I am trying to gain right after show for a few weeks until I do another I will eat relatively clean for 10 days and then extremely clean for rest of time but I eat tons and tons when eating clean...as for winter bulking I try not to let my waist get more than 2-3 in. from comp. size...but you also have to remember I have a hummningbird metabolic rate...I think of dropping cals and I loose wt!

It depends. Personally, I'm not sure I've been convinced by any evidence that cheat meals are "necessary," other than psychologically, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I try to make training as much a lifestyle choice than anything else. The fact is, though, that I like to eat and dinners with friends are important as a way of staying in touch.

I'm not going to eat a pizza every week and crush my diet, but its not going to kill you.

Back when I was in high school and college, I HAD to eat junk to get bigger. Now I look at a pizza and feel full.

I asked this oquestion also Winnie, as I am soooo looking forward to finishing this cutter and moving on to new mass!!

When I was a skinny kid, all I did was eat everything in sight, it didn't matter what it was..... Then as my waist started to expand, I started to think about cutting..... So dieted down for about 10 weeks, then next time I went on a bulking cycle, I was a little more concious about what I ate because I knew how hard it was to get it off later..... So now that I learned these things, I tend to eat lots and pretty much everything... But I am concious about how often those real bad things go in my mouth.... For instance... I never eat fries when eating fast food.... And instead of getting 5 or 6 hamburgers, I will get the big mac or double big mac because that cuts out some of the buns.... Garbage food is garbage food, I eat it while bulking but I keep it to a minimum.

Actually, if you're dieting all the time then a cheat meal is necessary ~ but I'm not awake enough to elaborate more.

I'm going to wait & see if KR mentions the ice cream......

                    Allow me KRL.

While dieting your body will get used to your diet and adjust accordingly.... Meaning your metabolism will slow down along with other things..... Your body likes to be in a state of homeostasis, therefore it will always adapt to what you are doing. To stop your body from doing this, or to kick your thyroid and other hormones back into gear.... You would have a cheat day. Overload your body with calories, and it will be confused.... It will be broken out of it's state of homeostasis and begin to make a change to meet the calorie increase you just made in your diet. Now that everything has been kicked back into gear, you can go back to dieting and continue making improvements. But if you did not do this, then your results would surely drop off the table and you would be stuck at a stand still with your diet.

                    Hows that KRL??

To clarify, and what I MEANT to say (yes its early here too), is that things like pizza, fried chicken and ice cream are not necessarily the right way to go about "cheating," though I do agree with your logic, particularly on the carb-ups.

I hate to try to support a point with examples that reference top bodybuilders, because I'm not sure it translates, but recent MD magazine articles have Ronnie attributing his awesome Mr. O performance with the fact that he rarely, if ever, ate dirty in 2003.

Basically, the point I'm trying to make is there's a difference between cheating clean and cheating dirty.

                      No offense meant, of course.

Everyone apporaches this topic differently and there is no absolute right answer. I vary between clean "carb up days" when dieting for a show to total shitloading. Both work it just depends on how I feel.

Hey Randy-you'd have to run to catch anything that you'd eat...stealing this from HGB: Save the carrots, be a carnivore.

I pretty much eat what I want when bulking as long as I get my protein in. More specifically, I eat what I want, and as I've come around through the years I've realized that I don't always want that Burger King or Pizza.
