Very easy to overtrain w/ these, if you're taking each subset to failure. I would suggest a Doggcrapp style program (in terms of training volume and frequency) if you're going to be using them all the time.

Speaking of, there is an advantage to RP sets over drop sets: RP sets will give you a greater load / rep and *approximately* the same number of reps (volume in a given set), depending on your rest in the RP set.

Is it a more effective stimulus to do:

    Drop set: 200 lb x12, 160 x 4, 120 x 4
    OR
    RP set: 200 x 12, 200 x 3, 200 x 2

My take is that INTENSITY (Load / wt. used) is the numero uno factor in terms of the training stimulus. Drop sets are better for muscular endurance, although still good for growth, whereas, RP sets are better for growth (but still good for endurance - just ask any DC disciple about how tough it is to endure a DC style RP set).

Just some thoughts, but all in all, drops are great. Just use 'em sparingly, IMO.

I use them occasionally. I've been hitting my bis with drop sets. I won't keep that up for long but for me it seems to shock a body part into growing.

I use them when I need a change in the routine. I don't do them on a regular basis though. On days where I don't have any energy to lift heavy I'll do drop sets and keep the intensity high.

          Glad to read Randy's reply...
I use drop sets occasionally-especially on arm movements....if nothing else I love the intense pump!

I also use them occasionally but rest pause IS the way to go. keep the weight heavy and consistent, not to mention it's a bitch!
