  • Are you a screamer?...

Just wondering who here is the noisy guy / gal in the gym.

I tend to be loud as hell in the gym, especially on leg days. There are actual reasearch data (see Ikai and Steinhaus, circa 1970) showing the being yelled at or yelling can increase voluntary strength. Its become part of my psych and a very effective part.

Although most wouldn't know it, I actually hold back a bit when I'm in the gym. When I'm at my studio at home (alone usually), I behave like Ronnie in "Unbelievable" with a few more four letter expletives.

Anybody else get a bit noisy in the gym?...

I get a little noisy at the end of a set...but usually nothing to bizarre.

I usually make fun of the screamers. Some people go way overboard. Oh! Aah! Eeeyah! Ooowah! yeeeah! But, I am known to let out an occasional grunt.

TRUST ME.. RANDY CAN FRICKIN' SCREAM.. a little story for ya.. when randy would train at the gym i owned he would gradually start the yellin'.. it was funnty as hell to see the people's reaction.. they were not used to that.. lol i was behind the desk and randy was squatting.. it started to get pretty intense and the yelling started.. now, i am used to that sort of thing since i trained after the gym closed and some of my partners were screamers.. but, a middle aged man came up to the front counter and asked " is something wrong with that guy?" i said "yeah.. he has a shitload of weight on his back.. you'd scream too" he then watched randy for a second and asked " he is going to get hurt".. he then paused and said " how the hell could ya tell if he was hurt?? it all sounds the same" i laughed and said, "hell.. he is just getting started.. he has only been here about 15 minutes".. the guy shook his head and said " ill come back.. he is scaring me".. i though that was some funny shit..

I am well known for "noise"-especially legs-some laugh and whisper-think I'm trying to draw attention to myself etc.etc.-however I NEVER see anyone doing 25 rep hacks with 315-feet together goin'all the way down w/o stopping( a pre-contest favorite of my partner)-people in general don't get it-intensity=size

OH, SHIT!!! Sorry 'bout that, LATS! Didn't mean the scare away the customers!... Interesting that a grown man would be "scared" of another guy who's just minding his own business (except to sneak a plate away now and again). ??? (I take it he wasn't military... Jeez.)

Funny thing is, that guy probably knows me, but just didn't recognize me. (Hit me with a PM if I might know him.)

                I hope he came back!?!?

Most don't realize the untapped strength potential that we have. Even in the gym at full bore, we're just scratching the surface.

I'm not a screamer but I do sing disco tunes real loud when I'm training.

I try not to be loud. But sometimes when Im pushing the real heavy weights, my emotions get the best of me.
