  • my rant...prob shouldn't but...

I already pm'd this to a bud here but what the hell may as well rant publicly since it has really put my head into a spin!

talk about taking the wind out of my sails.....
spoke with my regional NPC rep who has judged me on several occasions, most recently this weekend at the Jr USA, looking for some constructive criticizm.
Well here is what I got, he thinks I'm too tall to be a mw (@5'6"???), the other mw's are shorter (most look about the same to me) so can come in more shredded without loosing size(I wasn't shredded and don't have any size??) but if i take time off to put more size on to be a solid Lhw, then at my age I'll be too old. he says maybe i should start back at the state level in the MASTERS division and work my way back up to Masters Nationals. Otherwise I'm going up against 20 & 30 yr olds (which I have been and doing ok at it??????).

I'm sorry, I thought I could handle whatever he would say. But he said nothing positive, nothing constructive that I can work with to improve.
    Am I washed up? A has-been? a wanna-be? too old????????
This really had me down for awhile but then I became angry and will use it as fuel. NO BREAKS now going into the JR NAts.
    I have something to prove.

He is one judge, Kid - ONE. I will say that he may be right about you doing well in the lightheavies but there is no way you would be too "old" to get there. That is retarded. We could all stand to move up a weight class, so, you never know, it might be your ticket.

    Just my opinion, bro.

      Ditto on what Skip said.

At 5'6", there are guys at the nat. level who are competing as heavies. I think you would look awesome as a LHW. Your symmetry would make you a major force.

As far as the age comments and trying to work your way up in the master's division- screw that. Look at Jimmy Canyon as a recent example of someone who took it all the way at the national level in his late 30's.

If you like, you can do the Jr. level show's AND the Master's nat's. (AFAIK, you do not need to qualify to do the Master's nationals, so working your way up the state level ranks seems silly - unless you happen to know that your state judges will be the master's nat. judges... HOwever, that's not a game worth playing, IMHO.)

I would use this as fuel for your fire to come in better than before. This doesn't mean you have to be a 198lb'er as a LHW next time you step on stage. At 5'6", you can weigh 185 and stand toe to toe with most of the guys, at least at the Jr. level. The Nat's and the USA's are different, but by the time you've graduated to those, you would / could be a 198lb LHW... (If you're ready for that, your placing will tell ya, obviously.)

Chin up, Bro. I think those judges are put on the defensive b/c they get attacked after shows when people get "robbed" (be it true or not). For this reason, I think they overstate their case sometimes b/c feel the need to justify themselves.

In a way, he was giving you a compliment and encouragement - he sees the potential in your frame to be a 198lb'er and hold the size well. From what I know if you, I think you have the mental potential, too, which is the bottom line.

thanks guys I need this. Yes Skip I did put alot of weight on his opinion because of who he is, but again, that was HIS opinion.
I do not see me moving very far into the light-heavy's by june 19 though, thinking I should hit the Jr Nats as my last middleweight appearance and come back next spring with an added 20lbs on stage....190-195 would be a good place to start.
I think I will need DoggCrapp this summer!

Definately stay a middle for the Jr Nats but remember this (just being fair with you, bro) - the low turn out at the Jr USA only points to a possible HUGE turn out at the Jr. Nats, bro. I can't be sure of this but if I were a betting man.....

You should do well, bro. You know that. How sweet would it be to best a field of 30 instead of 7?

Grab your balls (or what's left of them hehe) and get it on, bro.

          Everyone is behind you.

Keep your head up Kid I am in the same boat....i can win my states at a midwt. level (top of lights now) but to do well national I will have to get light heavies. That is 3+ years down the road and about 35 lbs but I am young so I have time...Do what I do as you said you are, use it as motivation I had a judge tell me I would never do well in any type of bodybuilding due to my body type...well we shall see...

that's just one guy opinion KR. Now you can concentrate on proving him wrong. Your not to old. I hate hearing your to old. Go out there and show them what us old farts can do.

well you know my thoughts on this already. I think we go all out for another 8 weeks and make a few changes to the final 2 prep days and leave it all out on the stage.

                start refocusing...

KR, time for a mental break on my beach......

I know your disappointed about the feedback you got. But he is also one of the judges that place you 3rd. So.....
take it with a grain of very bitter salt.
F- em! Come on down and relax for a week then bust some ass...

Your sure to look even better....
