Is there a relationship between temp and Metabolism. Can one measure metabolism using basal temp. How about changes in temp and corresponding changes in metabolism.

    Yep!

The Q10 effect applies to rates of metabolic reactions - for every 10?C increase in temperature, there will be a doubling of metabolic rate. Of course, you'd be dead if core temp increased that much, but that's the rule of thumb.

This is why body temp in the morning is used to evaluate metabolic rate and, indirectly, thyroid function.

Could be that you're in a hot room.

Do you normally bring your covers to the classroom?... LOL.

So if you notice a rise in temp in a body area-IE love handles could site specific fat be being removed? Could one measure skin temp and compare while being on Yo to without and tell if it was working or not?

I really wouldn't try to use skin temp - it varies too much w/ environmental temperature (as a means of thermoregulation). I would just use a skinfold in the area you're concerned about and give it some time.

But, yes, theoretically, higher temp would indicate greater metabolic rate. In the case of an area where there's lots of subq fat, the temp would indicate that there's greater blood flow there, NOT that the fat is being oxidized there. The greater blood flow will help with fat mobilization, but the oxidation would occur in other tissues (like muscle) and the rest of the body where its used for fuel.

Using transdermal carriers to bring things like forskolin and yohimbine to an area, and then keeping that area heated (which would cause vasodilation and greater blood flow) is the theory behind several products that were big a couple years back for local spot reduction. I don't seem to hear as much about those anymore, though...

Thanks Randy-Makes more sense now. Especailly the fact that the heat would be generated at the site of oxidation not the site of fat loss. I had wondered about that for a few days. And just had not put it together.

There's a lot of issues, here, my man. (Not sure what you're gettin' at in the above, to be honest...)

Psychosocial - men are supposed to be tough and not get cold.

Body surface area - women (and children) have greater body surface area relativ to body mass and can lose heat more easily that way. On the other hand, they have more body fat, which tends to insulate. This of course varies.

If you're trying to put on some weight right now, your metabolism is probably kickin' in compartison to a 110lb female who eats like a bird, so you are producing more metabolic heat, which would keep you warmer.

I've recently been diagnosed hypothyroid. I've noticed that when I first started taking synthroid I was hot all the time. I think it was just my metabolism kicking up when I got on the meds
