  • November 2012 ISOM SPONSOR Fatgripz Extreme Review

We got the FatGripz Extreme and had to see if the larger version was worth it. We ended up testing them on a few exercises. First we did them on dips. It is really hard to explain, but there was something about squeezing the FatGripz that really makes you work your triceps harder. I believe it may have been Jim Sietzer that told John Meadows that squeezing the bar during arm work (biceps specifically) will help with developing the arms. After doing these I completely agree.

Next we decided to use them on Skull Crushers. When we do these we do not return the bar straight over head. The arms are kept at a slight angle. By doing this your triceps have to support the weight the entire time, ie no rest at lock out. Weight was light on this first set, but we still only went up to 65 lbs for 15 reps. I could not believe how much more this hit my triceps. I may never do these with a standard bar again unless I'm cycling between no Fat Gripz, Standard, and then Extreme.

Thanks for sharing. I've been considering picking up some Fat Gripz.

I have to be honest. I didn't think I would notice a difference, but boy I was wrong. My triceps were crying, especially on the skulls. I noticed it at about half of the ROM I had to squeezed the gripz a little tighter and felt that nice stabbing pain that means your doing something right.

I have the originals, and they are good for pushing and curling. Don't even try with the pulling unless you're specifically targeting grip. Dave Tate has a great video where he goes from extremes, to originals, to normal bar on a straight BB curl working wide to narrow grip.

Here are two videos of a female client of mine, Cristie using the Standard FatGripz. I feel grip is under trained with females.
