  • Cheaters?

How is it cheating if pro players use steroids? If 95% of all professional basball players are useing gear and some rookie starts useing how is that cheating? By him using isnt that just bringing him up to a level playing feild with other players? now if only 20% of all players are useing then they COULD be called cheaters but when 95% is useing theres just not way to call them cheaters.

    see my point?

I don't think 95% of ballplayers are using gear. I think the numbers is more like 20-30%.

If 95% of players were on gear, then I wouldn't consider it cheating. If there is only say 20-30% It makes it to where the people not using, need to use or think about using just to have the same advantages that the others have. And if they're not willing for whatever reason, they're at a disadvantage.

If it would just be made legal in the sport, we wouldn't even need this discussion, but we all know that will never happen.

Legal or not legal..... I see it as a personal choice, and not cheating.....

I read an article today where Reggie Jackson said that these guys have to be using steroids because they were putting up numbers better than himself, Ruth, and Mays, etc--you know, the greatest players to ever play the game.

With statements like these it does make them sound like a bunch of whiners (and he said that he didnt want to sound like a whiner) but could it be, just maybe, that some of these guys are actually better? No, that couldnt be at all...check the ego(s)...

              Heres da article...

Report: Hall of Famer claims some players are taking steroids

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Reggie Jackson challenged baseball's whopping home run totals, and claimed that some are the result of players taking steroids.

``Somebody definitely is guilty of taking steroids,'' the Hall of Fame slugger told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for Thursday's editions.

``You can't be breaking records hitting 200 home runs in three or four seasons. The greatest hitters in the history of the game didn't do that,'' said Jackson, who hit 563 home runs.

San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds is just two home runs shy of tying his godfather Willie Mays for third place on the career home run list with 660. Babe Ruth is second with 714 and Hank Aaron first with 755.

``Henry Aaron never hit 50 in a season, so you're going to tell me that you're a greater hitter than Henry Aaron?'' Jackson said. ``Bonds hit 73 1/8 in 2001 3/8 , and he would have hit 100 if they would have pitched to him. I mean, come on, now. There is no way you can outperform Aaron and Ruth and Mays at that level.

``There is a reason why the greatest players of all time have 500. Then there is that group that is above 550. There is a reason for that. Guys played 19, 20, 25 years. They had 9,000 to 10,000 at-bats, and it was the same for everybody.

              ``Now, all of a sudden, you're hitting 50 when you're 40.''

Jackson also said he wants to join fellow Hall of Famers in meeting with baseball commissioner Bud Selig to discuss baseball's steroid-testing rules, which he does not believe are stringent enough.

``Why wouldn't you ask me or Aaron or somebody like that to give you some insight? Bud is a nice guy, but he doesn't know what's happening here,'' Jackson said.

He added that any time any baseball veterans ``speak the truth and show our concern, it's like, `Oh, they're just whining.'''

Jackson also criticized the baseball players' association for not accepting a more stringent drug-testing policy.

``The last I heard, (the illegal distribution of steroids and other drugs) was against the laws of the land,'' Jackson said. ``The players' association talks about `my rights.' My rights? Do you have the right not to pay taxes? You do something wrong, you pay the penalty.''
"When you guys get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."

              "Carry 24/7 or guess right."

How the heck is it cheating? Steroids don't help their skills. It may help them with personal performance, if they didn't have the skills already, they wouldn't be in the league.

I think that they SHOULD be able to use them, if they want to. However, it IS cheating to me in the sense that it is a rule that is clearly stated for MLB and if you break a rule, you are cheating - no matter if everyone else in the league is doing the same thing.

Example: Alot of guys are using gear for natural shows. It is STILL cheating because it is a rule that they are not supposed to use.

                      Just my opinion.....

I am sick of this whole debate! Anytime the general public hears the term "steroids" they all get into a frenzy over nothing. I've said this all along...who cares! Drugs and sports go hand in hand! Has been like this for a while! I hope someone hits 50+ homers this year! And yes, I did hear Jackson say that this morning and it would have felt good to bitch slap him into reality and tell him there ARE better athletes today!

That is the only reason that I think it is wrong. In bodybulding, if they are not tested for, it is not cheating. If they are not tested for or it is not stated in the rules for a sport like Hockey or any other sport, I don't think it is cheating.

Now, there is always the moral and ethical dilemma but that is not cheating, per se.
