  • What Has Bodybuilding Done For You?

This should be an interesting thread I hope, because everyone can relate and participate in some way. What has bodybuilding done positively or negatively to you in your life? How has it affected you? How has it affected the people close to you? Have things changed (physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually) since you started training? How important is bodybuilding to your life? What would it take to get you to stop? Would it be something you recomend to your loved ones as an activity to take up? Indeed, do your loved ones and/or friends think of you as the stereotypical meathead because of bodybuilding? Are you percieved as a little misguided because of your involvement in the sport? How often do steroids and their aura of negativity come into play when you and bodybuilding are mentioned?

These and other questions should make for an intelligent, insightful thread. Do tell...

It has been a positive thing all the way around. Pops bought me a gym membership on my 15th B-day....I just wanted to be like Arnold man!!!
I was a skinny kid...really skinny. I am 6'1 and i was 145 pounds when I graduated high school....now I am 235. this is very important to me...BBing that is, and I will never stop unless a major accident occurs.
It is no longer just about being big and strong...I really enjoy pushing through the pain threshold and the exhilaration of going 100% intensity...a good pump is so hard to beat!!!
Something else...and this may sound corny...but when I was a kid I bought Arnold's book "Encyclpedia of Modern BBing" and after reading it and articles by Yates I truly learned how to visualize and how to motivate...and I use those concepts not just in BBing...I apply them to everything. Those guys have the mental toughness and intelligence to overcome anything.
I really don't worry about the AAS thing..it is frustrating sometimes-the ignorance of the general public that is, but I do this for me, I have made my decision (an intelligent one IMO) and
well, everybody in any walk of life will have their naysayers. Just makes me train harder!

GetnBigr would you stop post-whoring and post something worthwhile in this thread instead of burping after everyone's posts?

                Well said Supersport, good post.

And now KR, how about a real post from you too eh? You can sum up everything bodybuilding has done for you in three words??

IM^, I would do that except for the fact that my session times out on longer posts. I've done two lengthy post today and the page timed out both times. So now, I may have to resort to replies such as: . and ; and that's great.....lol... I'm kidding bro, but my session does time out too fast. Can you fix that?

What has it done for me.....Let me think.

When I started it was to loose weight and gain strength for sports. I went from being an over weight teen to competing in BBing. That helped my self confidence greatly.
On the bad side it has cost me a lot of money over the years.
Now I would say the greatest benifit is when someone thinks I'm in my mid 20s when I'm actually in my mid 30s. Taining has helped me age well. Again the draw back is from injuries. I have bad knees and a messed up shoulder. Chronic tendonitis and mostly just feel old. There are always trade offs. I'm in great shape compaired to most my age but have to deal with the aches and pains from years of beating myself up to compete.
Any views or opinions expressed in this forum or in personal correspondences are purely for entertainment purposes and are obviously the product of a deeply troubled mind.

                        Have a nice day.

so far it's helped me figure out what i've been doing wrong most of my life in lifting & dieting and how to get real results.

i've also met really, really cool people who are awesome additions to my life.

That is an interesting point i overlooked...i have made some really good friends from the gym over the years....still keep in contact with them and travel the East coast to visit them a good bit.

have also had a few gf's over the years from meeting at the gym...
