This month we will get a sneak peak into the man behind the screenname LG1! Leon, thank you so much for taking the time to be interviewed. I enjoyed your answers. Without further ado...

    1. What is your name? Any nicknames?

    Leon (LG are my initials)

    2. Where do you live?

After emigrating from the Ukraine with my family when I was 7-years old, we made our home in NYC. Greatest city in the world

    3. What do you do for a living or what are you studying?

Banker by day bodybuilding hack by night

    4. Are you in a relationship? Do you have any kids?

Currently dating, no kids yet, I am behind schedule big time.

    5. What three words best describe you?

    Ambitious, Reliable, Dedicated

    6. What 5 things would someone see when they walked in your door?

I keep things minimalist; couch, panoramic painting, coffee table, cow-hide rug and TV

    7. Did you play sports in high school or college? Which one(s)?

I competed in Judo on a national and regional level from the ages of 9-18

    8. Have you ever competed in BBing, PL’ing, strongman? Competition highlights?

Not yet but perhaps would want to try at some point.

    9. What motivated you to start lifting? How old were you?

Arnold, Sly and JCVD as well as for Judo, I was an early teen when I started.

    10. How would you describe your current training protocol?

I am a fan of Charles Poliquin and have been using his Advanced German Volume Training (AGVT) program since the Fall 2013. Recently increased my training from 3x week to 4x per week. Another one of his training protocols that I will try some time this year is the 5% solution.

    11. What advice do you wish you would have received (and taken) when you started training?

WOW, there is so much I should have listened to. Eat quality food in the right proportions more frequently, train lower body (squats and deads instead of just beach muscles) and focus more on strength building than bodybuilding.

    12. What goals are you working to achieve this year?

Getting leaner, stronger and more muscular… the hat-trick or tri-fecta!lol

    13. How did you discover or develop your current training strategy?

I purchased Charles Poliquin’s new book and AGVT caught my eye.

    14. How old were you when you first got your first car & what was it?

17, it was a Buick Century. I had it for a short time until I felt comfortable driving then went straight to a Blazer (2 door). Haven’t had an American car since then J

    15. What kind of music will be on when you get into the car?

Usually listen to hip-hop, electronica and rock….pretty eclectic taste in music.

    16. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?

    Cameron Diaz

    17. Do you have any special skills or hobbies (i.e., nunchucks, welding, guitar, etc.)?

    Editing/proof reading…nerdy!lol

    18. What is the ONE thing you always get when you go into Sam’s or Costco?

I don’t have one near me, but when I go to my local supermarket, I always load up on Skipload foodsJ

    19. Who is your favorite cartoon character?

    Bugs bunny

    20. What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

I typically have 6 meals per day, 3-4 are liquid.

    21. How often are you late for work or school?

Almost never, it takes a lot for me to be late in general. I am always early and when I need to be casually late, I am on time.

    22. Have you ever had two dates in one night?

On more than one occasion, it’s important to be able to multi-task and prioritize in life and work lol

    23. What is one thing you could tell us about yourself that we would be shocked to know?

There are two movies that are tear jerkers for me lol

    24. Have you had any major injuries? If yes, how did you deal with it?

I have; blown knee from Judo, full pec minor rupture from flat barbell bench, upper/lower back and Sciatica from deadlifts. I always let things heal on their own, naturally. I view surgery as the last possible option. Looking back, I would have opted to get my pec repaired via surgery… oh well.

    25. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I would like to move back to Singapore where I spent a couple of years for work. Great time and wonderful place to live. I refer to it as the Switzerland of Asia due to its central location and ease of travel

On an empty stomach, not much, probably two or three. I am a lightweight when it comes to drinking and I don’t like beer lol

Yes, on my left shoulder. It’s Kabbalah inspired.

    28. Do you have any piercings? Where?

My left ear from back in high-school. That hole just won’t freaking close.lol

    Face (eyes, hair, skin)

Something fitness or diet related, can’t recall…senior moment!

    39. If time and money were not an issue, what would you do with your life?

I like Jay Z's music too.

I know very little about AGVT. Can you fill me in a bit on it? I'm under the impression it is brutal with volume.

AGVT is a hybrid program IMO. It combines both strength and hypertrophy components. You basically do a single compund lift per body part for ten sets of five. Next time you train that body part you increase the weight a certain percentage and do ten sets of four and then ten sets of three the next go round. Then you look to increase the reps on the weight you did for four reps to five and three reps to four. Then the cycle repeats itself. The assistance work is usually done for three sets of 6-8 reps after the compound movements are completed. Rest time for all sets is limited to no more than 90 seconds.

Thanks for the run down. How much volume were you training relative to this before you started? Have you noticed your cns struggle to adapt?

I was doing a DC inspired program. I didn't notice much of a Cns adaptation struggle with the AGVT. When compared to GVT which requires ten sets of ten reps.

Oh, I was probably thinking of GVT. Are you enjoying AGVT? Is it causing new growth?
