  • Finishing my basement

I have about 1000 sqft I would like to finish, including a family room, bedroom, office, full bath. I would like to finish this with an average finish nothing high end, but not just throwing up paint and carpet. I have 2 HVAC units for my house currently. I assume I would need a 3rd for the basement? Any insight on roughly what it would cost to finsh out?

How many SF are the existing units feeding?

While I've never seen 3700sf require 3 units, it is possible. I guess I can't really speak to that.

If you want average type finishing in the basement-laminate or finished concrete flooring, 1x4 pc bath, fiberglass batt insulation, minor trim, also assuming your egress windows are in place I'd say $125-$150/sf.

What kind of CFM or air flow do you get from your units? Are they on the same side of the house? HP of the motors? Where in relation to duct work are the units? You may not need much cooling in the basement as they tend to stay cooler, heating maybe. The only issue is a thermostat to regulate temperature and control the unit, you may be better off with a small heat pump with reversing valve you control in hand when needed.

Robb, thanks for the info. The only answer I have for you is that they are located next to eachother on the lowest part of the house. Where the basements walks out to.
