I saw on the news that several states have petitions to secede from the union. Is this all hype or is it really a possibility?

Secede from the union?

Sounds like a great idea, and if Rick Perry wants to stay in office, it would be for his own good to listen to his residents. This isn't the first time Texas has talked about seceding. I wouldn't dismiss it as Hype so quickly. The petition has only been open for 4 days and 70,000 signatures already! Sounds like a message to me.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened; from what I've read there were some petitions filed after the '04 and '08 elections.
How would something like that work? It's clear that the secession is due to the rapid freefall into Euro-socialism, but although Texas is largely conservative, many liberals call Texas home too. Hell, if they could get it done I'd be interested in moving down there, but how in the hell would it happen?

We've never figured out _how_ a state might leave the Union. There's no process that I'm aware of (certainly not in the Federal Constitution, unless one takes the 10th Amendment at its word and claims the states have the right to establish a way to opt out... I don't think the body of the Constitution has any language that expressly prohibits it).
Most likely all this amounts to if filing a grievance with the Feds that they, of course, will ignore.I've won on so many levels already I don't even care how I do at the show. I just wanna look damn good!!

I have lived in Texas for a year, a few years back I absolutly loved it. Everywhere you go has a very conservative attitude towards most things. The state is enourmously rich with the richest school in the world UT. I totally think they could do it. It appears many Texans are very Fed up with the government thinking they can run our lives and I don't blame them a bit. If they succeed is seceding, I am def on my way there to become a permanent resident.

Even if they had 100% of the texas residents on board I don't think the Feds would just let it happen.6/22/13 - 2013 NPC VICTORY CLASSIC

Eric holder wouldn't have had a leg to stand on and Fast and Furious would have never happened.
But back to the real world.....when will the GOP actually go back to real conservatism. These soft candidates like McCain, the Bushes, Romney....enough with these guys already. When will a real, truly liberal conservative step up to the plate?

With the crazy obsession on the left to soak the rich and successful at every turn with excessive taxes and regulation, there'd be a huge influx of wealth into the seceding states.....could you imagine the state of disarray in the liberal states when all the people paying for their precious social programs suddenly disappeared? It would be a site to behold.

Have you forgotten about Ron Paul??? Mccain, Romney, Bush's are not really conservative. They are RINO's (Republican In Name Only). All of their policies and spending were off the charts liberal as well as thier foreign policy. I for one see little to Zero difference in Repub and Dem.

As far as Ron Paul goes, I like a lot of his ideas, but like a lot of other people, I have issue with his history of Anti-Semitism (I'm a Jew and those newsletters trouble me), parts of foreign policy (Yes, ***Israel is important to me) and his overall un-electability. I'd prefer Rand over Ron personally. But if Ron Paul were a viable candidate and actually had a chance of winning, I'd vote for him in an instant.
***Let me add, as far as Israeli-American relations go....I'd like a hands-off approach. I think America should view Israel as follows: First of all, no economic aid. For starters, America is broke and is in no place to be giving away billions of dollars to foreign countries. For Israel, it's too reliant on aid and it would be better off to be cut off cold turkey and learn to live off of it's own hard work....plus, it would force Israel towards more capitalist principles, which is a good thing.
As far as military aid, that's on the table but only if America deems it beneficial to it's own national security. I know that America does benefit from it's relationship militarily, as I have several relatives in the IDF who have been sent here to improve the state of the American military and teach some new tactics. I don't have any more details than that to share, if anyone's wondering. But the premise is for America to act in it's own best interest and only engage in military aid if it's beneficial to this country.....Israel doesn't need charity. And for what it's worth, there are no US Troops stationed in Israel and I don't think there have ever been.Last edited by dakoose; 11-13-2012, 01:02 PM.
