IntenseMuscle's Featured Member for the month of June is bbjeff86!
Jeff, thanks for taking the time to be interviewed and letting us get to know you better.
1. What is your name? Any nicknames?
Jeff Tirrell, No
2. Where do you live?
I live in San Antonio, TX. However I grew up in Michigan and lived there until October of 2009 when I moved down to Texas.
3. What do you do for a living or what are you studying?
I work as a conditioning specialist for an Auto manufacturer where my primary function in ergonomic analysis as well as doing injury prevention work, group exercise classes, exercise testing etc. I also will be starting a part time job in corporate wellness next week as a Health Fitness Specialist for a financial institution. Thirdly I do a small bit of online consultations for diet and training on the side (www.tirrelltraining.com), nothing for contest prep or anything like that, just general health, wellness and performance.
4. Are you in a relationship? Do you have any kids?
I am married (1 year in August), and we have our first child on the way (due on Thanksgiving day)!
5. What three words best describe you?
Mature, dedicated, and loyal.
6. What 10 things would someone see when they walked in your door?
Couch, recliner, make shift coffee table, old tv on a cheap tv stand, full size mattress in the living room, lap top computer, papers, flip flops, and desktop computer. We are currently in a small one bedroom apartment so there isn’t much room for things.
7. Did you play sports in high school or college? Which one(s)?
In high school I wrestled and played football. I was 2nd choice All-league offensive linemen for football my senior year, and All-league heavy weight division 1 wrestler my senior year. I played club rugby my freshman year of college, but then stopped after that to focus on bodybuilding.
8. If time and money were not an issue, what would you do with your life?
Live out in the country with lots of land, close to a lake in a large log cabin. Do some sort of charity work. Train in my own pull barn style gym (power lifting, strong man type training). Have as many children as God decides to bless me and my wife with, and become more involved with our Church.
9. What kind of music will be on when you get into the car?
Can’t recall what I left it on this morning, either Catholic radio or Country music.
10. If you COULD erase one year out of your life, which one would it be? Why?
It’s hard to say, I am not one of those people that doesn’t believe in regrets. There are a lot of things that I’ve done that I regret, but they probably all did help to shape me into the person I am today so it’s hard to say. I would probably say the year that I broke up with my ex and started dating my wife. I wasn’t a very good person during that time, and that is the one time that I tried using AAS (though I didn’t get any results and think it was fake). Turns out that decision, and my dishonesty about it cost me my dream career of being on the police department down here.
11. What bill do you hate to pay the most?
It’s not a bill that I write a check for but I would say the insurance premium that comes out of my paycheck for me and my wife. The cost of health care really frustrates me especially since my wife has a number of medical issues.
12. What will you do with your tax refund? If you get one.
The same thing I did last year, pay off debt and try to put some into savings.
13. How old were you when you first got your first car & what was it?
The first car I bought was going into my sophomore year of college; it was a 1996 manual transmission Ford Ranger. Before that I just drove whatever my parents let me drive.
14. What goals are you working to achieve this year?
I am currently preparing for my first power lifting meet (September 3rd) in the USAPL. I would like to total at least 1000, but would be happier with somewhere around 1200 raw (no wraps, belt or anything). Also I’m trying to get back up to 200lbs (currently 188lbs) while maintaining the current leanness that I have now. As far as non lifting goals I would like to become more financially stable, get out of some debt, be a better husband and provider for my family.
15. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
The Pope
16. If you could only eat FIVE foods for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
Pizza, my wife’s spaghetti, blueberry pancakes, french toast, Hamburgers… I am a fat kid at heart, and was chubby all the way until I did my first bodybuilding contest after my senior year of High School.
17. Do you have any special skills or hobbies (i.e., nunchucks, welding, guitar, etc.)?
No skills that I would call special really. Hobbies would just be lifting, nutrition, church, movies, music, and any type of outdoor being active type activity.
18. What is the ONE thing you always get when you go into Sam’s or Costco’s?
I don’t go to or have a membership to either of these places. But If I did I would assume it would be eggs, and some sort of meat, perhaps cottage cheese and peanut butter as well.
19. Who is your favorite cartoon character?
The Incredible Hulk… I know not very original.
20. Does someone at the gym really annoy you? why?
Not really. People do things that I don’t understand or that I feel bad for them not doing things efficiently as they could, but I tend to keep to myself and try to not worry about what everyone else is doing.
21. How often are you late for work or school?
NEVER… that is a huge pet peeve of mine. I always try to be at least 5 minutes early for whatever I need to be at.
22. Have you ever had two dates in one night?
No, I’ve always been a one woman man, even in my not so great years.
23. What is one thing you could tell us about yourself that we would be shocked to know?
For those that don’t read my log I had a mediastinal teritoma (giant tumor) removed from my chest cavity last December. They had to cut down my sternum and open me up open heart surgery style. I had 3 drainage tubes put in, had to take 6 weeks off from any type of physical activity, then had to start lifting again with 5lb weights, and could only increase by 1lb increments for each consecutive workout for about 2 months.
24. Have you ever found something in your parent’s bedroom that was questionable? If so, what?
No, never did much snooping, only to find Christmas presents, but they were already wrapped.
25. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
On a lake or beach, but I would want my extended family who all still live in Michigan to be there with me.
26. How many drinks does it take before you get drunk?
I rarely drink now, maybe 1 beer/month if that. So I get buzzed off 1 or 2 drinks. I would probably be drunk at 3 or 4.
27. Do you have any tattoos? What and Where?
No, not really my style. I’m a pretty clean cut and straight forward type of guy.
28. Do you have any piercings? Where?
No, I had my left ear pierced from 6th to 7th grade, but stopped wearing it when I started wrestling.
29. What's the first thing you notice in the opposite sex?
Stomach or butt
30. What is your favorite lift?
Deadlift
31. What personality traits do you look for in a partner?
Selflessness, caring, and understanding.
32. What magazine do you read most often?
I never really read magazines anymore. Last one I read was Muscular Development at the airport.
33. If you could have any one superpower, what would it be?
Super human strength, obviously.
34. What motivates you in life?
My wife, God, and the way I was brought up.
35. Graduating GPA from high school?
3.76, should have done better, but I always did the bare minimum to get A’s and B’s.
36. If you died today, would your affairs be in order?
Yes, though I’d hate to have my pregnant wife go through that.
37. If you had to give up one electronic gadget, what would it be?
I’m not really into electronics, and sort of wish we could go back 20 years in some instances, I would probably give up my cell phone first.
38. Last book you read?
Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 manual… if you don’t count that then it would be “A Biblical Defense of Catholocism”
39. What got you motivated to start lifting?
Being weak, chubby, and wanting to spike girls interest in me.
40. Why do you come to IntenseMuscle.com everyday?
It is by far the most informative and civil forum that I know of. There are great people on there with lots of experience, knowledge and most don’t mind helping you out.
