Hey Pumped.....supposedly hiccups occur from the vocal chords suddenly closing in response to the diaphram contacting....nothing to serious really.

If it persists it may require surgery....extremely rare though.

I have always been under the impression that the episode described above is caused by ingesting air when swallowing.....eating or drinking too fast, something along those lines. Somehow the flow of air and the diaphram get off beat is my guess.....
Probably has nothing to do with what you ate.

Try holding your breath for 20 seconds or longer if you can....that is what I have always done to gert rid of hiccups. Works most of the time.
You can also drink a glass of water from the opposite side of the glass....that supposedly works too...I have tried it along time ago, can't recall if it worked.
To do that-drink from the opposite side of the glass you have to hunch your back and bend over.....guess it depressures the diaphram or something.
Good luck man....I know it is bothersome.

Holding your breath is according to me, the best way to get rid of it... Never tried the water thing, but next time I get hiccups I'll try that one

Another way to get rid of 'em is to press on an acupuncture point that is half way between your belly button and your xyphoid process (at the bottom of your sternum). I've tried and so have some of my friends and it always works for us. Just use a couple of fingers and apply some pressure. Hope that helps!

Excellent point RR.....I have read about that, couldn't remember the acupoint though.

I am a huge fan of acupuncture, acupressure, MSA, etc

Me too, SS! I use it to cure anything that ails me...had a car wreck a couple months ago and my back got jacked up...saw a sports med. doctor that wasn't much help, but I had Tuina done a couple of times and it worked like a charm! I was scared that I was going to have chronic back pain but its almost gone...going to have at least one more treatment from the amazing Mr. Fix-it and I bet I'll be good to go!

Slowly but surely people are becoming aware of acupuncture...what a fine system of medicine.
Great for pain, addictions, migranes, etc. I see an acupuncturist about 4 times a year-at the change of seasons-she sticks me with a few pins, brews up some herbal compound (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me!!! AAArrrgghhh!!), very relaxing. She sometimes puts a pin right in the crown of my skull!! lol.
Guess she is trying to stimulate some grey matter, lol.
