personally i think they are too much of a hassle. my friend had one that attacked a puppy they brought home and now has a muzzle on all the time. plus when you go out in public people are scared to death of them. they are beautiful however, my friends is ~70 pounds and is a brindle(sp?).
What particular body i currently occupy is trivial, the important thing is what i am becoming.
pitts should not be any heavier than 45-50 pounds.. what is going on is that breeders are breeding pitts with larger dogs and getting a pitt "by product" that is much bigger than a pitt should be.. pitts are no different than any other dog.. they will get jealous of other animals like sin said.. but, that is with most breeds..i have two friends who are breeders and they have been breeders for around 15 years a piece.. all their dogs are great and very friendly.. but, they are full blooded pitts and are very small.. i have a dog book here and the section for pitts states.. "pitts can be a variety of colors. but, pitts should be between 45-50 pounds for males and 40 pounds for females. they are samll, agile and very muscular. their temperment is based soley on their handling as puppys. but, train them to fight and you have a very useful weapon. show them love and you have a great family dog.."
I had to put him down last year, havent replaced him yet...not over losing my buddy yet, know what I mean? He was 13 y/o. Fantastic dog.. the best. HIs name was Sherman, his fathers name was Tank, he looked just like his dad, thus his name. Bulldogs get a bad rap. The are strong powerful
l dogs, and if trained to be nasty and aggresive, thats a big mean dog. Thay are the ultimate peole dog..even the little racscals dog, Petey was a pitbull..
Its the assholes that make them mean that deserve to be caged.
13 YEARS OLD?? WOW.. HE HAD A GOOD LONG LIFE.. I KNOW IT DOES NOT MAKE IT ANY EASIER FOR YOU BUT, MY ONLY MADE IT TO 8 YEARS OLD.. HE WAS KIND OF A LEMON.. WE HAD HEALTH PROBLEMS WITH HIM FROM THE VERY BEGINNING..the breeder offered to take him back but, by then we were way to attached.. i agree that they get a bad rap.. my little girl was very rough with him.. pulling ears and things like that.. he would just lie there and sigh.. occasionally he would look at me and whine a little and then leave the room.. my friend told me "dogs are born sweet and we humans screw them up" kinda true..if ya ever watch animal planet you see a shitload of pitts being taken in from pit fighting and abuse but, one thing is always there..when they see the animal control people their tails wag and they are happy.. bad dogs my ass..:chair:

Was thinking of getting one...
I personally wouldn't get one, but that's only due to all the assholes out there looking to sue. Not all pits are dangerous; I think it has a lot to do with how they were treated early on.
Anyway, I persopnally will never get one. A lab is always a good choice.

Yep.... Funny but true fact....
I am not scared of any dogs, and frequently I will walk up to a dog I don't know (any breed, pit, rottie, poodle....) and pet it.... Generally if you show fear they get aggresive.... Anyway, I have been doing this my whole life, and I have made friends with many pits, but only ever ben biten once when doing this, and it was a poodle.....
