I mix the grape flavored Karboload with vanilla whey isolate, creatine, and glutamine for post-workout. It tastes great. There's no cramps or bloat (as Doberman said) and the combination doesn't leave me so full that I can't eat a whole food meal an hour later.

Below is one of the references that supports the use carbohydrates post workout. I want to thank Mentalflex with supplying me with these studies. This one in particular supports what I and many others have been doing for a while. It doesn't point to a specific carbohydrate, but it does support the use of carbohydrates in general post workout. It also supports the addition of protein in this protocol. I'll address this in a later posting and probably in next month's Truenutrition Supplement of the Month. This may not be ground breaking for many of us, but let's face it how many of use do things we've been told works without any proof. Well, here is good reason to be doing this.

I, in no way, am going to try to act like I have the knowledge he does. He has an encyclopedic knowledge on the topic and his article hit's it out of the park. I highly recommend that someone hire Skip or Scott for their training/diet in order to utilize these protocols to their maximum benefit. It's not all about just throwing some powders in a bottle.

@blastandcruise - Karboload is a high molecular weight carbohydrate formula. High molecular weight carbohydrates speed up the rate of gastric emptying and promote faster muscle glycogen re-synthesis. Thanks Kris. Good answer. Karboload is the one that has worked for me. Waxy Maize didn't do crap, and the studies say why. I don't know about Cyclic Dextrins, but I can't imagine them working better than Karboload. I also can't imagine them coming close to the price point TN has. I know it sounds like an ad, but I can't overstate how blown away I've been by Karboload.

Maybe Scott can chime in on this, but I have not seen anything that shows highly branched cyclic dextrins (HBCD) eliciting a greater insulin response or increased rate of gastric emptying as compared to a product like karboload. HBCDs appear to show an increased rate of gastric emptying compared to waxy maize or dextrose, but have not been (at least from what I've seen) studied in conjunction with other high molecular weight carbs.

Although this doesn't relate to Karboload here is a recommendation from the study for post workout carbs:

"For a rapid restoration of muscle glycogen, it is recommended that 75–90g of CHO (1.2 g/kg) are ingested immediately after exercise."

This study showed that a high molecular weight carbohydrate solution increased work capacity. Another thing it states which I disagree with is that the drink should be consumed post training. I myself and many others I know of have had excellent benefits by using sipping this drink Intraworkout, and a bit post workout (5-10 minutes after).
