  • Sweetners?

What sweetener are you guys using? I think my current protein product uses aspartame but I figured I'd ask before ordering from TPC.

Also, anyone notice a diff between blends with and without the aminogen?

I've used the asspartame in mine for a while now.I know, I know, it does cause cancer in little mice but in the whole scheme of things I'm not too worried...

You know, I have used aspartame in mine for quite a while and after switching over to stevia, I just didn't like the taste of it. I do have extra sweetener to add to it but it just doesn't taste as good to me as aspartame. I am going to go back to the aspartame dispite the negative publicity. The stuff just tastes 10 times better.

Well.... It is kinda like..... bland. It just doesn't sweeten it the way you would expect. It kinda changes the taste a little bit. God, I don't want TPC to bitch slap me but stevia isn't a sweetener, technically, so I think I know why. LOL However, I do have to say that it is the safer alternative as aspartame and splenda have some very negative press.

The stevia I could probably get used to as it is a bit like the difference between diet and regular soda. If you drink diet long enough, it tastes great but have a regular and go back to diet and it is like YUK!

I find the Stevia pretty bland as well but after drinking O.N. Chocolate Whey for the last couple months it's a welcome change. The ON stuff has too much flavor and sweetner for my taste.

Anyone use sucralose? i sent them an email when i first ordered my chocolate asking about sweeteners, not sure whether it was Dante or TPC that wrote back but they recommended sucralose. Maybe they were just overstocked on sucralose back then The shakes taste pretty good but i do mix them with milk not water so Im sure that helps.

How about splenda. Thats the closest thing to natural sugar.

I believe Splenda and sucralose are the same thing. At least thats what it says on trueprotein.

they are the same thing, splenda is just the retail name, sucralose is the chemical name. it is a derivative of sucrose (table sugar). i personally still like the taste of aspartame over sucralose though...

Is splenda a better alternative then aspartame since its the clost thing to natural sugar?

Also how much aspartame can a human take in, just wondering, since my protein has it, and my crystal light has it and my diet coke has it, lol.

honestly, i think alot of people think just because sucralose is a derivative of sucrose and that the company Tate and Lyle (the only company legal to sell it) are pushing it as a natural sweetener, people think it is safe. i have read some pretty frieghtening stuff regarding both sucralose and aspartame. i am not going to say one is safer than the other, but aspartame has been around alot longer and more long term tests have been done. and usually negative results in tests of aspartame happen in unordinary situations. like extrememly high intake (trust me you would have to drink over 60 cans of diet soda over a long period of time to compare) or changing the structural integrity of the chemical, like heating freezing or cooking with it.

sucralose on the other hand, we only have short term effects and not much is known.
