Cardio ? *Updated 10 weeks out pics....
Any difference in fat burning with the below plans ?
45 Mins AM 45 Mins PM Or 30 Mins AM 30 Mins Afternoon 30 Mins PM I hate cardio,so thinking of breaking it into 3 sessions to make it less boring..... Last edited by maxxmuscle; 02-23-2009 at 09:46 AM. |

I think the bottom line is getting it done (and I am assuming you are talking about in one day)...but, why not suck it up w/ 15 mins at the end of both the morn/afternoon sessions? I know cardio can suck, but a portable DVD player can do wonders.
Now, unless you work from home and have the equipment at the house (or work at the gym), thats fitting in alot of sessions per day, which for me, would be much worse than the cardio outlined in plan A (45mins). Also, I would have to go somewhere and I wouldnt have the time to do it 3x per day--(read: I wouldnt make time for 3 cardio sessions per day as that would include commute time to/from the gym, warming up, changing, etc). I know there are more important things to worry about
![]() I own/work in my own Gym.It is a small setup and i work in there alone,so i have to do my cardio before i open up in the AM and when i close in the PM.By the time i finish work in the evening,it doesnt give me much time to spend with my Fiancee,so the earlier i get out of the Gym the better.I could fit in the 30 min afternoon session when the Gym is quiet....... I myself didnt think it would make much difference.90 mins in 90 mins.Just wanted some opinions... |

Why so much ? Because im in contest prep,and i have fat to lose.Also,im diabetic,and cant lower my carbs as much as i would like to,so i add more cardio.....
Think im gonna just suck it up and do 2 x 45.The AM session doesnt bother me so much.Its just the PM session after i have locked Gym up for the day.After being in there for a 12 hour day,i really like to be out of the place asap ! |

The only advantage I can see to the 30mins x 3sessions way is that your metabolism will be elevated for an extra period of time. Otherwise I would think 45mins x 2sessions would win.

If you can fit in 30mins in the afternoon when it is quiet, do you think you could fit in an extra 15mins at that time (for 45mins) instead of waiting until closing time? If so, when its time to lock up, you do so and go home to spend time with the future wife...
Or would the extra 15mins in the afternoon be pushing it too far (not sure how long it stays quiet there)? Just throwing it out there... -slide

Its not so much DURING cardio that the Hypos are a concern.My BG usually goes up when i do cardio due to adrenaline release ect.My problem is i need to take Insulin with each meal as just as carbs need insulin to be absorbed,so does protein.If i was to take insulin with my meal,without any carbs,i would go hypo,as there would be no Glucose to keep my BG at a stable level while the insulin does its job ( Absorb the protein/nutrients ) So for me,small amounts of Carbs ( 30g or so per meal ) and small regular doses of Insulin throughout the day is the way to go....

I would love to do a Keto type diet,but right now this isnt an option.I would have to experiment with changing my insulin to a slower acting one,so it peaks when the protein hits the bloodstream.It would take many weeks to get it right.Time is what i dont have right now.I will try it in the future though......

From strictly a metabolic perspective, 3 sessions at 30 minutes is optimal given the options you listed. Every time you do cardio you jumpstart your metabolism and remember that you burn calories from the cardio session after you stop doing the session. It is much like doing postworkout cardio vs. cardio by itself. Doing in postworkout is simply an extension of burning calories from your workout. Doing it by itself, though, starts the calorie burning from a dead stop instead of just extending the calorie burning phase.
