I know, but comparatively, do smith CG presses match BB CG presses? Probably not...but you know what, I don't really care and just for the sake of being a good sport I'll throw one in the mix.

I currently have decline CG smith presses in my blast so I'll just use them.

Well sorry about that... I'm sure you can handle the guilt ;-)

But as far as the begining question in your post...IMO yes, IF your working your tris. If you are doing it as a bench assist ex or just an "upper body" ex then maybe BB would be better but if its for tris... My tris get a much more intense work out from smiths than BB.

I haven't decided which one I'm gonna do... I may do smiths just to be different cause I expect most to do BB.... If there IS a "most".

Peace.

She showed it to me. It's a lot darker than I had expected it to be.

Jesus Christ guys, clean it up. This is the thread that's supposed to advertise the forums AND the sponsors. You're making both look bad.

That was big weight...how wide is your hand spacing though? It looked to be just outside your chest, which is about where I do regular benches. When I do close grip, I go about 10" in between my thumbs....maybe this is why they hurt my elbows so much....

Read the description on YouTube, close enough bench presses. Not a typical close grip but like he described close enOugh. I also like the slingshot, been wanting to pick one up.

I'm not questioning it as much as I'm questioning my own spacing. I've always kept a pretty close grip when doing these, and never really thought much about widening the spacing....It just might help my ailing elbows....lol

Honestly my CG benches are typically closer than in that video. However:
1) I have insanely wide shoulders, so "close" grip to me is likely not the same as for someone else (pinkies on rings, which is what I used, is a little under shoulder-width for me)
2) I wanted to use the Slingshot to make the vid more fun, and if I used it with a very close grip I would die.
3) My elbows and shoulder are killing me, and doing very heavy CG presses right now would make me cry.

So there.

out of breathe i barely got out the rules and description. I only filmed the last part b/c the vid would have been 10 min, so it is the last round of 10 sets of 5, supersets with occlusion wraps

+ YouTube Video

well I tried for 20 minutes. I just dont have the mental capability top embed a video. if someone could teach me I would greatly appreciate it. I am ready to punch the screen

Many powerlifters/physics masters' close grip is pinky on the rings, regardless of what you would consider cg or not.
Edit: Post up your CG vids, lets see em.

The slingshot sure as hell took away a lot of my beat up shoulder feeling when I started using it every once in a while. I'm a fan.

I'm confused, his grip is shorter than shoulder width , why isn't CG ?

I see, thank you for your input! Since you obviously are a master of the close-grip bench press, I'm sure you'd be more than happy to put your money where your mouth is and make a video! Then not only can you show me how it's done, but win the ISOM contest!

I think its pretty obvious I wasn't trying to be disrespectful...it doesn't look like your hands are even inside your shoulders...maybe they are..but it doesn't look like it from that angle..for a competition that hands out prizes I just didn't think it was CG..sorry if you took that the wrong way..never once did I say I was stronger than you or anyone else on this board

So there.
I gotcha....my shoulders are fairly wide, so I'm actually curious to widen my grip. Maybe it WILL help my elbows.....my arms are also VERY long, so I'm thinking this may actually help....

I gotta watch the video again, cause I didn't notice the slingshot, at all....lol

thanks, appreciate it..........please teach me!!
also what is or isnt close grip? i am not trying to have any type of documentation for perfect form or exercise selection, just trying to get bigger onstage. my elbows go where they go, and my triceps feel the best that way. i am sure i do other stuff weird too like drag curls and partial skulls.(other stuff i did today)... these would also be looked at as improper, but those rules are moot to me.
ok just realized he was talking about the other vid.. I think?

Mods can't win the ISOM, bud, so I'm not competing for anything. I put this up purely as a challenge to members. If you want to win a shitload of prizes, you'll need to bring something to the table.

1) To embed a YouTube video, take the stuff after the = in the YouTube link, highlight it, then click on the little YouTube icon above the text window. Voilà!
2) Close-grip is not well-defined. To me, "close" means anything closer than what I use for a competition-grip bench. It's a completely arbitrary distinction. The important thing is the closer your grip is, the more involved the triceps (and shoulders) become relative to the chest.
