I Did What I Never Thought I Would Ever Do Again

So most of you know that my Girl Friend's Dad and his GF were killed in a tragic motorcycle accident on 02.22.2012. It made me stop and think about how fragile life is and what I had in front of me. After my divorce(or still going on divorce, not messy) My life has been an emotional roller coaster, most of my own doing and some not. 13 Months ago I found a great woman, mother and friend, but thanks to my own insecurities I failed to see what I had in front of me and almost sabotaged our relationship more times than I care to admit.

Then the tragedy and the wake up call. made me realize what I had and what I almost lost. I didn't want to be selfish but because of what happened I didn't want to wait. Tomorrow is not a guarantee and today should be lived to the fullest. When I arrived in Dayton Airport Thursday morning my GF and her son were waiting and met me with open arms in the exit line. I've never been more happy to see them.

I had planned on proposing right then, problem is I chickened out. Once we got to the car and her son got in I asked her to come back by the trunk where I asked her to marry me, and she said yes thank god! lol! I know it wasn't the best timing but given the circumstances I didn't want to wait. I told her it was ok if we didn't tell her family and keep it under wraps until later so the ceremony and celebration of life would be about her dad Jimmy and his GF Anne, they were truly special people.

I have never been more sure of any decision in my life. I also proposed to her son with a ring pop tonight, corny but it's letting him know I'm there for him too. His dad, then her ex husband both want nothing to do with him, I however love him. He drives me bat shit crazy sometimes but so does my son. He deserves to have a good father figure in his life and I intend to be that Father, he may never call me dad or maybe later in life, but right now I don't want to confuse him.

I swore on my grave that I would never get married again, never say never. I'm sorry it took a tragedy to realize it but I'm sure glad I did before it was too late.

-Robb

Congratulations DCB, I wish all of you the best, and I'm sure that her son will have the role model he should, as well as a brother figure from your own son. Best of luck to your new family.

When I told you to "be there for her", I wasn't talking about marriage! Lol....just kidding. Hey, if you found the right one, then that's great for you and all of you actually. Just make certain that you're not rushing anything.....

When my wife and I split, the last thing I could even think about was doing it again....but, time heals wounds, and in my case, my next love was my former one, my wife....lol. I wouldn't change that decision for anything....

Congrats my friend, you deserve to be happy!

WEll we aren't running to the church or justice of the peace tomorrow, just a sign of how I feel and the direction I see us moving in. No one has supported me or encouraged me inthe ways she has, no one.

And Robb, I hope you didn't sense ANY negativity in my post, cause that's not how I intended it if you feel that way....My comment about not rushing was solely coming from my own past experience, not anything that I've read into about your situation....No negativity at all...My wife is the best thing that ever happened to me. Without a SINGLE doubt, if I was not with her right now I would not be here, I firmly believe that....If you feel that your lady is what was missing in your life, then keep her around forever...

Best of luck to you two and your children.

I would bet most people that get divorced swear they will never do it again.... But most do. Hell my wedding is in September. :-)

Congratulations.

Bro I definitely feel ya on this one....my first marriage ended and hit pretty nasty during the divorce....swore I was good to go as one-man operation. When I met my wife I fell pretty hard and actually considered breaking up because I liked her so much....i called a pal back in Chicago and his answer was
"So let me get this straight, you've dated all these crazy bitches who you stuck with, but now that you've met a nice girl, you wanna dump her because you like her a lot?!?
When he put it that way I realized it didn't make much sense....
If its right its right and don't let anybody change your mind

CONGRATS BRO!
Btw your better at marriage the 2nd time around

I did that too if you don't remember. I wanted to make sure she was making the decision to get out of the USMC for her and not for me but what I failed to see was how much I meant to her and what she was willing to do for us not just me because both of us are a package deal with our children and eventually someday our own child.

It happens. Sometimes when you least expect....or when you really don't want it, is when you meet the right person. I was in the midst of my divorce from my 1st wife (of only 2 yrs) when I met my current wife. I had said the same thing, no way was I getting involved with anyone and was going to date them all! Well, when you meet the right one you know it. Now we've been together 24 yrs and June will make 22 yrs married.
