What is your take on Split routines?

As this applies to contest prep. I have been doing some reading about using split routines specifically for contest prep and ran it across some pretty knowledgeable people. I have heard some varying opinions on this and just wanna know what your guys take on this is.

The last person that I spoke with is a female pro and she highly recommends this. She believes that by doing this you are keeping your metaboism higher throughout the day.

What she suggested was train Mon, Tues, Thrus, Fri. What I have already found works fantastic for me. However split up say Chest and bis which is my Monday work out. Doing Chest in the AM and bis in the PM with either your cardio first thing on an empty stomach or following your evening workout.

Lets here some opinions for and against!!!

I would say as long as you are not hitting 2 large muscle goups you would be fine. I like the idea of lest time in the gym that the split would give you but myself I just hit 1 bodypart per week now I even give bies and tries there own day to. workouts take about 35min max and gives me time touch up

I have been on a push/pull routine for a while now. I hit chest/delts/tri's monday, legs wed, and back/bi's friday. Some people see this and say it's not enough time in the gym for gains, which is b.s.. I have learned from 2 highly intelligent people(LATS and Homonunculus) that you hit the muscles just enough to stimulate growth and then let them go! Dorian also preached this and look at him! This split works for me and has helped me go from a contest weight of 172lbs to my current 215lbs. I also train DC style and sometimes will go mon, tues, thirs, fri for a while to change it up. Always heavy and a lot of time to rest and recover.

I did a six split while getting ready for my show; that gave me a huge amount of energy for each workout and I didn't neglect anything by training it after I'd already hit one body part. I'm lucky that I could get in the gym six days a week and I know that's not always possible...the one day off seemed to give me enough recovery time to sleep and catch up.
