My coach taped pictures of him, Eddie, Fred...and I added Platz in front of one of the racks I used when I started powerlifting. I don't have perfect form but I tried to do what they did. Even Eddie's stance was a too wide for me and I am way taller than than little guy. LOL For those that don't know Ed Coan is very short...and very, very insanely strong. I believe the best powerlifter that ever lived.

I have never used a Monolift though. From friends of mine they all said it's eaiser to squat wide but I always remeber German squatter/bodybuilder Frank Schram squatting over 900 at 198 lbs with a high bar bodybuiler stance in powerlifting meets. He was ripped up and vascular. I just never wanted to loose any potential quad size shifting my leverage too much which is possible.

I've tried it. Hated it. I have also yet to see a super wide squat that I came away impressed with the depth on. Most of em look like half squats to me. I also think that walking to bar out should be as much part of the squat as actually squatting the weight. JMO.

That's awesome about Schram. Kirk squatted low bar but his stance and depth were always right on IMO.

Well, part of what I do argue AND I AM NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM BIG MIKE but the walk back has always been part of the movement. Now records are being broken so often etc. I don't know. Just makes you think. I could be wrong. But again, regardless, Big Mike is doing what he is allowed to do within the rules.

I think in all fairness we should end this discussion since it is off track with the thread. You can start a monolift thread if you like. That should be interesting.

I agree with ya Future about the walk out. It does make the lift more difficult. I used to walk out everything until I moved to Columbus and started training at WS. Since the guys at WS compete in the IPA, WPO, and APF, where walking out the squat is not neccessary we don't practice it. I gues you can say,"When in Rome... "
