question on side tricep pose

I see instruction pages and many people doing it with the other hand reaching behind the back and holding the posing hand. AND I have seen some competition photos where everyoine did it without reaching behind.
Which one is mandatory for NPC shows?
I get a better horseshoe without reaching behind.

Obesity related illness will account for more than 1/2 of all health care costs in the next few years.
So why is the damn government waging war on the FITNESS Industry??

I've spoken with a couple of judges and they said that the main thing is that
you show the tricep. Grabbing the hand is how it is usually done, but there are some superheavy competitors who have trouble reaching back like that. So if your arm is tensed rigid at your side and the tricep is flexed and visible, that should be OK.

I've judged a few local shows and never penalized anyone for a variation, as long as the tricep is displayed. Grabbing the hand in back does highlight the delt
and pecs more, and can add to the effect.

Just keep in mind that the judges are looking at how the triceps relates to the entire physique. So make sure you flex the outer leg and show the calf.

thanks, I 've worked on pushing the front ham out with the back leg and flexing the calf
I think the tri may look better as I lean down, but now it definitely show the horseshoe when I hold it down and flex it back against the lats

I think you should practice both. It all depends on the head judge because he is the boss for your show. If I remember....one of our comp. here....the head judge specifically asked for tricep pose, reaching behind.

Yeah, but that is Colorado. You guys ask for all sorts of weird shit.

I was waiting for the "one calf back, standing on one leg while touching your ass" pose. lol

That doesn't seem too hard, could you show us all how it's done?

LOL! What a character!

Well, it's actually Rick K. that askes specifically for that tricep shot. He is a National judge also and he said they ask for that there. His thinking is "just getting you ready for the Nationals."

At least what I have heard from NPC, you must reach back, grab the wrist, and then flex the tricep. According to the Perfect Posing video, the variation you are talking about is not allowed and you will be penalized for it.

Thanks Sparky.
After working on it for a while, and losing some chest/back size, I am able to comfortably grab the hands behind the back now.
Although I think some of my muscle loss has definitely come in my arms since starting the heavy dieting and cardio.
