let's say you can do 315 on bench

you warm-up, then work up to a single with 335 or something (not necessarily a 1RM)

I can't remember exactly, but I think that reciprocal inhibition (maybe I'm using the wrong words, lol) of the golgi tendon organ will allow you to perform more work with a slightly lighter weight
