Strong Passwords

Since I still do not feel that I am quite qualified to answer many of the question about train on this site I decided to contribute another way rather than just be a leach. So this will be a start of many posts on a topic I know more qualified to talk about.

Strong Passwords

What is a strong password?
A strong password is one that contains combination numbers, special characters, upper case letters, and lower case letters. The length of a password can increase the strength but length alone does not make a strong.

Why use a strong password?
To keep your personal information safe and to help prevent a hacker from using your personal account or computer to attack other accounts and computers.

Is their an easy way to use strong passwords that I can remember for all the various sites and logons I have?

YES. Create a personal password algorithm.

What is a password algorithm and how do I use it to remember my strong password?
It is using a strong password (Something you have) as a repeated base and combining it with something that you know. For example a strong base could be something like D^e2)8 and I would combined that with some type of rule like the first and last later of the user name or web site. Say I was creating a new user account on www.intensemuscle.com and my user name was JohnSmo. I would use D^e2)8ie or D^e2)8jo as my password.

Using a password algorithm means you can write down the strong base password on a card and not worry about someone finding it as they will not know your rule.

Also using a rule that is based off of the site name you are on will also give you a unique password for each site you use on the Internet. So if one site should become compromised you will not have to reset all your other passwords at other sites.

Just something to think about from KnowNothingGuy
