What method do you use for your competition color

What method do you use for your competition color. I have been tanning occasionally the past few weeks. This weekend I知 going to hit the beach Sat and Sun. Probably the tanning salon Tue and Wed. Thursday night I値l apply one coat of Protan after I shower. Friday morning I値l shower(my last one until Saturday night) and shave everything in the morning and apply another coat of Protan. Two more coats Friday, one in the afternoon and another before bed. Saturday morning I値l apply one coat of Dream Tan dark brown and let it dry. Right before I hit the stage I値l touch up with Dream Tan if needed and add Jan Tana posing oil. Its much better than Pam. Jan Tana absorbs into your skin and brings out the deep cuts, Pam just makes you shine and washes you out.

I start tanning about 5 weeks out and stop monday before the show sat.

I apply the protan starting Friday morn. a couple hrs after I shave my whole body. Then another coat Friday evening...then wake up early Sat. and shave my face and apply one last coat to everything including my face. I don't use any dream tan, it is banned from the local shows here.

I used Pam, but need to try something else in the future...

Is dream tan really banned. Why? Everyone in the Miami area is using it.

I said at the local NPC shows here bro...just a local thing I think...it gets too messy and I think the venues complained a lot.

I'm sure some guys still use it here, but not supposed to.

How hard is it to get that stuff off of your face?
If I do the show in November, I have a work related function, meeting customers, on Sunday evening following the show.

No more dream tan for me. The stuff is shit, if you ask me. It is extremely messy and too hard to get the right color vs. stage lighting.

This last show I used 8 coats of protan and my color was very nice. I left the last coat on over night with NO coat on Saturday morning. If the last coat doesn't get to "set", it is going to look like shit when you hit the oil backstage.

Guys,

If you have time before your show, definitely give Olympic Sun products a shot. Looks just like Pro Tan, but the oil makes you look even better. Requires very few coats (3 MAX), and goes on in 1/4 the time of pro tan b/c its a foam application. Very good stuff.

Get in touch with ProDH (Dave Henry) - he sells the stuff now.

Here's what I did for my show a couple weeks ago. (Pics are in the comp. photos forum.)

I ended up putting a coat on on Fri AM, and then Tanned (as it has some tanning accelerators in it). This would not be necessary, but I had Fri. off, so I thought it couldn't hurt (tanning does not seem to mess w/ my water).

Shave (I'm pretty hairy) and 1 coat Fri PM.

Sat AM: 1 coat. Use the competition oil before going on stage, too - VERY cool stuff and helps dramatically w/ the already good color.

Light shower Sat. afternoon

Sat. before night show - 1 coat. Apply oil as above.

1 bottle should last the whole process, although a 2nd one is never a bad thing to have on hand... ;^)

I had a decent base tan as I have my own commercial tanning bed in my home. However, this was going to be the first year that I was not going to use dream tan and I didn't want to fuck up my color. I also shower after EVERY protan application (or rather before I put on the next application) so it is very even but it ends up being quite a bit lighter in color than if I just left it on.

3 on wed, every 6 hours.
2 on thurs, every 12 hours
3 on friday, every 6 hours

I just had to comment...I have been putting color and oil on bodybuilders for about 15 years. I work at the NPC contests in CA and the USA in Las Vegas and the ProIronman. I would like to make a suggestion to anyone who is new at the color and oil game....DO A TEST RUN! I know you don't feel like it at the end when you are tired and ready to forget the whole deal....but I have seen too many good competitors lose a placing because the judges could not see their physique because they were too white, too dark , too oily or green. YES green...sometimes the colors look green on certain skin tones...Some athletes look great with dream tan and others DO NOT. I have used dream tan, jan tana, protan and some products from Este Lauder (for my face). I typically use pam and not oil. The trick with pam is to spray it on your hands then put it on and "patting" is better than spreading. You can check out my work...I put oil on Mark Dugdale, Chris Cook, Saman, Will, Quincy, Rich Jones, Edrise, and Jay Cutler when he guest poses...

Now, THAT is what I am talking about - top notch, experienced response.

By the way, welcome to Intense Muscle.

I used protan for this competition I just had I started on Wed night put 3 coats on by friday rinsed off friday morning and put another 2 coats on Fri. I did no coat Sat morning just like skip. I also used the quick bronzer from protan, but with it I thought you shouldn't put it on too thick(cuz it is pretty thick) and I would wipe down with a paper towel after rubbin it in and that made a big difference by using a paper towel over the bronzer to make it look better. I also used muscle juice for prejudge on top of the bronzer and Pam on top of the bronzer at the night show, and I do have to say my color looked better at the night show with the pam

Nice post, glad to have you here at IM.

As far as using Pam, that is what I have used in the past....what I've done is spray it on and pat with a lint free towel....sound ok???

HEY BW...
a cloth is fine...it is the rubbing that causes problems...pam is nice cause it is absorbed slightly into the skin and doesn't sit "on" the skin like oil. I still see compeitiors using baby oil..smells nice...and if even a littlte too much is applied it looks way too shiny.

This is what we did for his contest. Pam and just patted it a bit with a lint free towel. For the pro tan I put on rubber gloves and just sprayed small areas and rubbed it in. I know you are supposed to "paint" it on but this worked really well. Dried much faster and the color was very even. Not to mention the application time was cut in half.

Some more notes on prepping..Exfoliate like crazy the week before and apply lots of lotion. Two days before use an "oil free" lotion. For shaving if possible shave the day before depending on hair growth. If you shave right before the pro tan will get in your pores and cause little dark speckles.

Right on BELINA,
I have been telling people for years that the last few weeks of skin care are critical. I lotion my body, a good amount of lotion and then I sleep in leggings and long sleeve shirts, the last 2 weeks. My skin is so happy...
I have been thinking of teaching a class to men "How to shave for a Body Building Contest"...LOL really..I have seen some pretty funny stuff...
I have not sprayed Protan for the last 2 years...(Thank you TINA). I pour it in a bowl, use a small cotton wash cloth and paint away...I can get a coat on a "super heavy weight" in less then 10 minutes...it is so much easier...I wasted a lot of years spraying that stuff!!
Timing your shaving is important...thus back to my previous post...try a little patch, see how long it takes for the hair to grow back and put the "tanning product" on...

Good stuff Buffwoman! Hey guys extra incentive on the exfoliation and lotion..You won't look like a leper when it starts wearing off.

Well, I'll be damned. I picked up a solid piece of advice today with the wash cloth application. Thank you very much. : )

Skip,

BW did this on me last year and I was like - shit! I'll be damned. We were in the hotel room and she offered to put another coat on (which I needed to do, but just wasn't looking forward to)... She said, it'll just take a minute, and she was right!!! LOL
