Anybody use Pro Tans new stuff called Quick Bronze Hot??? It come in a jar that looks kinda like a Dream Tan jar. I've never used it for a show but I've tried it on my skin and it gave me a brown red color, but the red comes from the hot stuff in it so the red might go away after a while. I'm not sure if I wanna try it for my upcoming show or not. I've always used Pro Tan + Dream Tan the day of the show before. The Dream Tan always got me dark enough with a awesome color but I think it also smoothed me out and I've used 2 bottle of Pro Tan before and still wasn't dark enough (might be applying it wrong). I'm not to sure if I'll use Dream Tan or the Pro Tan Quick Bronze yet but I know I'll try to get as dark as possible with the Pro Tan spray first.

I have been using Muscle Sheen for the last two years...I really like how it looks on my clients. But they screwed up on the packaging. It is a rip off..you can never get all of it out of the bottle...so here is what I do:

1. I cut the bottom of the bottle off
2. scoop out the muscle sheen with a butter knife
3. put it in a zip lock bag

When i get to the contest, I cut a tiny hole in one corner of the bag and squeeze it out on to my hands. Then I rub my hands together so get it "thinner", it is really thick, then I gently spread it on the skin...I try to keep it thin...remember it is easier to add than to take away...this only works if you have used a tanning product that dyes the skin. It won't work with Dream Tan or something that sits on the skin.
I used this on Eryk Bui at the ProIronman and he looked great, nice sheen, not to shiny...

buffwoman, how do you feel about showering when using protan? and how long do you wait in between coats if someone was to put on 3-5 coats on friday. then do you put another coat on sat morning? so basically im asking what exactly do you do from thurs to sat? im sorry if that would be giving away your expertise, if it is any tips would be helpful.
thanks

Not to worry..I think I did post something in here about that, you might check, but what I usually do depends upon how fast my clients' hair grows! Usually I have them shave either really late Thursday then I apply one coat and have them shower Friday am. I generally put 6-8 coats on total, 5 or 6 on Friday and 2 on Saturday. You can read about the cloth method I use and dont for get to paint your toe nails and finger nails with clear polish or you will have dyed nails. I hope this helps.

buffwoman i'm not sure if you still read around on here, but if you do can you fill me in on where you apply the pam/muscle sheen to your competitors? Just the chest/back quads or all over?? thanks in advance, you're a champ!

ps anyone else can chime in here if they'd like, just curious what buff had to say

Good morning...as far as the muscle sheen, (I don't use pam unless the competitor insists). First, it is important to put it on your hands and rub till it is "warm" or not so thick, then I start at the top and work down...it goes every where. The nice thing i have found about the sheen is those places that tend to dry out quickly don't. I hope this helps. I can always be reached at buffwoman@hotmail.com...

Talking This is how its done

Hihi! Well, I have always been told my color is great. I am a perfectionist. I have followed the same routine each time, with only the posing oil changing. Here it is:

-One month out from the Tuesday prior to the Saturday show- start using tanning bed (this is perfect timing as you only need to buy a one month membership in salon, plus your last tan should be no later than the Tues prior to show as to not hold subcutaneous water)

-Make sure to heavily moisturize whole body after showering during the tanning month so you have no patches of dry spots

-Two weeks out from show- start exfoliating every other day with grainy scrub in shower

-10 days out from show- let hair on body grow if you will be waxing

-Monday/Tuesday prior to show- last tanning session

-Wednesday/Thursday prior to show- get waxed, but wait a day from last tan

-Thursday morning- shave it all off that was not waxed; after showering and shaving, let skin dry and pores close; then apply two coats of Pro Tan (BEST WAY I have done it is to put on latex gloves, spray tan right onto skin, and rub in with hands... this is super fast and always works)- DO NOT RINSE OR SHOWER AFTER THIS-LET IT SIT ON SKIN ALL DAY

-Thursday night- quick, cool rinse in shower until no color is coming off; pat and air dry; then apply two more coats in the same way (with close spray on and rub in)-DO NOT RINSE OR SHOWER-LET SIT ON SKIN ALL NIGHT

-Friday morning- quick, cool rinse in shower until no color is coming off; pat and air dry; then apply two more coats in the same way (with close spray on and rub in)-DO NOT RINSE OR SHOWER-LET SIT ON SKIN ALL DAY

-Friday night- quick rinse and then judge color to see if you need more or not; if you do, then do so and do not rinse

-Sat morning- show day: no color to be applied today; when you wake up put a light moisturizer on skin so later when you oil up the oil does not soak into skin

-I have used different lotions on stage, but I like Pam the best- but you MUST apply spray it into hands and then gently smooth onto skin- and only a little bit, add slowly

GOOD LUCK and pm me with other questions.

I forgot two things...

Make sure that you rinse the morning of the show so you do not have sweat runs in your color. Your last actual shower with soap was Thursday morning, after that only cool water rinses.

Also, your FACE: go to the MAC makeup counter at the department store, tell them what you are doing in detail- get a heavy foundation and a Blot Powder compact; try it on at the store on your forearm to make sure it is dark enough. Do this early so you can test it out at home for correctness- if its not good exchange it for the right one- just keep the reciept.
Yes this is for men too.

Exclamation

I reccommend Elite Tan! It's an airbrushing service and they do an amazing job. It looks better than ProTan and if you have a busy competition schedule, it doesn't leave the skin dry and blotchy like ProTan does. Plus, the color is a darker brown, rather than orange-tan. Looks real good. Plus, you only have to do it the day before a contest, rather than applying ProTan from Wednesday or Thursday and smelling quite horrible.

The people who apply protan themselves, how do you apply it to your back, and if you can apply it to the back yourself, how well does it turn out?

So what's the rule with shaving and Pro-Tan application? I was thinking shave on Wednesday and start applying Pro-Tan, but would want to shave again Friday night. What can be used for "shaving cream" that won't ruin the Pro-Tan?

I start using the tanning bed twice a week about 3 weeks before my show. The last week I will go 3 times. For my first show I was warned that people usually don't go dark enough, so I was determined not to be white and I def. went too dark. I used ProTan and I looked like leper when it started coming off after the competition. After that, my friend started doing airbrush tanning and she just used the stuff from the salon but mixed it as dark as it would go. It stained my sheets and my clothes. This last time, I found someone that airbrushes JanTana and it's so nice. I go at 9 am and 5 pm the day before my show and get sprayed. It's very quick and he charges me $100 total, he also gives me everything I need to do touch ups and oil and exfoliate it off afterward. It fades off very natural and I can even do photo shoots the following week and look great. Some color will get on my sheets and clothes, but it does wash out with no problem.
