Nightshift
I have a general question concerning my lifting time. I just got the news this afternoon I would be going to night shift sometime next month. I will be working from 8 at night till 7 in the morning. I am in the DC metropolitan area so that puts me on the road for work at 6:15pm and home around home around 9:15am. What time would you recommend I get to the gym? I am wondering what time would be the most beneficial for muscle growth and fit DC training. If anyone has the same problem or advice I am looking for advice. Thanks

The most important thing for your growth is getting the food in while at work.
You can go lift at any time. Just remember to get keep your pre and post workout meals the same regardless if its past your carb cutoff. If I were you... i would go in after work so its early in the morning and your wont be around a lot of people. Then you can get your workout in faster and get home faster to eat and sleep.

Itīs hard to go and train immediately after a nightshift ,i have done it. I think best time for you is before work , get some sleep first and then train. I have done nightshifts for over three years ,still managed to train and compete , but it was hard and bad for my health.I did nightsifts for two weeks in the row , then two weeks off.

Easy. Go home as soon as you finish work and go to bed. Sleep for 8 hrs (or whatever you do). Get up and have 'breakfast'. Go to the gym after breakfast. Go home, get changed and go to work. The day is the same just the times are shifted.
There is no 'optimal' time to lift weights for more growth. I have been workimg 24/7 shift work for 20 years and night shift and shift work in general has never gotten in the way of my training. You just need to be organised. Hell at the moment I am getting most of my cardio done at work. I tell the guys I am going out on a foot patrol for an hour. At the same time I am getting in a good cardio session I am actually doing some work (though the local offices have people in them wondering who that crazy cop is who walks at a million miles on ahour everywhere). Think laterally and be organised. Its not hard. have all your meals ready before work and you won't miss a meal or a training session, and you will find you're in the gym when no-one else is as well

I worked night shift for 2 years and never got consistent on my workouts. I would suggest before work, even though the gym might be crowded, because after working a night shift you're going to feel like hell. In fact, if your like me, you're going to feel like hell all of the time. I don't know your familial situation, but if your married and/or have kids, you'll need to take that into account as well. You might also plan on trying to get as many workout days as possible on your days off.
