BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS...Mike's Log
Well this will be my journal training for BIX's contest and beyond. I placed last in my first competition, however this does not intimidate me, because as it says in Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." In that spirit, the fire has been lit, and I'm ready to dig deep.
First day training after contest, no holding back now... Power cleans, two explosive 1/4 front squats after each rep 135x3 185x3...ties PR 205x1...PR 225x1...PR...strength only in the Spirit Deadlifts 225x5 *straps on* 315x4 *belt on* 365x2 405x1 475x1...PR after a long plateau...GOD IS GOOD Squats- a long belated tribute to Marunde 135x20 200x10...half the reps and half the weight, it's all I got really, haha *very late I know, but I was on vacation and then I didn't think this would be smart to do a few days before a contest...I haven't back squatted since April or done a 20 repper since winter 2006...so this hurt...a lot The Holy Spirit was stirring in me bigtime today...I can't lay claim to 3 new PRs, I just showed up ![]() |

Events with CT strength
Log 90x5x2 sets warmup 140x4x2 sets 180x1..PR 180x2 cleans 224xclean then at least 5 more sets of cleans with 180, working on technique Tire 650x6...PR 650x4 650x4 Stones- over 56" yoke 175x4 or 5? 240x0...tried at least 3 or 4 times 175x2...missed the third about 3 times *this was much harder than the box, harder to judge how far away you need to be...also, it's quite high...also, I sucked on these today Well despite the 2 PRs today was actually kind of a crappy day...felt very tired and weak. Very bruised up from the log and tire...and a bee stung me for no reason. Roll with it. |

i'm guessing i already asked this, but are you cleaning from the floor or just from a hang?

With the barbell- from the floor, unless I write "hang cleans"
With the log- both, kinda, yet neither...cleaning a log is different. I pick from the floor, set it on my knees, then squat down and pull it into the top of my stomach. Then I stand up with the log, pushing my hips forward and rack it on the top of my shoulders. Or at least that's the idea- the problem I'm having is that I'm not keeping the log tight to my chest when I stand up, so I have to sort of lean back and curl the weight up, which wastes energy. |

Hang cleans 135x5 155x5 185x4...rep PR for this weight I think Front squats 135x5 155x5 185x5 205x4 225x3 245x1 245x1 Walking DB lunges 25x10 stepsx2 sets 35x10 stepsx2 sets BB twists 45x5 95x10x2 sets No crazy PRs like last week, but good work put in. Thanks Duck! Yeah go lift outside, it's more fun...CT strength trains outside a gym by the dumpster...
Upper body Squat jerks 135x5 155x4 185x3...rep PR? 205x0x2 attempts 205x1...PR! CHRIST IS MY KING 185x0..didn't rest quite enough 185x1...started falling backwards on second 135x6 Blast strap pushups (log grip, feet elevated) bwx6,6,7 felt like my eyeballs were gonna pop! Cable rows w/log-like attachment, holding each rep to chest 100x10 120x8 120x8 120 held for 8 count Cable curls w/same attachment 40x8 60x8 80x8 100x8 The rows hit my back pretty well, I think it's my lats/mid back which are holding back my log a bit in terms of cleaning it, so these should help. All about that 200lb log today. "Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed." -Hebrews 12:12-13 |

Events with CT strength- Justin, Wesley, Big Tom, and Tom and April. Kevin was at a bench meet, and Iron Mike was at a curl meet? (I expect setting a world record strict curl)
Log 90x5 140x4 140x3 180xclean 180xclean...pressing strength just wasn't there today, triceps fried from thurs 140x5 140x8...solid set Farmers (weight each hand, turn at 50') 22x100' 112x100' 162x100' 202x100'...BIX's contest weight, good to go on this event! 252x45'...this was HEAVY! I've only done picks with this previously Tire 650x2 650x2 650x2...then another 1 after a moment so I could roll it back my tire seems so hit or miss...last week I got 6...hopefully contest day will be a good tire day " Ever since the day that I was made I’ve been deciding the end And I was made of wood and stone that won’t diminish or bend So when the heavy hand of death is here to take me away I’ll be the solid grip of time, forever holding my stay Nobody ever made a force that took a beating like me I call the earth and every scum to come and try to fight me Because when I made the choice to live beyond the dirt that we tread I felt the curse of mortal limit fall before it was said" -Demon Hunter |

Was at school this week for a retreat, and also to help the freshman move in, but the gym didn't open until today. So that makes just one missed workout, but not really, since moving everyone's heavy stuff on Thurs could probably count as one. If you want, go to www.lafayette.edu and check out picture #3 on the slideshow.
Upper body Incline press 135x9 155x7 185x3 205x1ish...the spotter touched both reps, I definitely needed it on the 2nd rep 135x7x2 sets Seated DB press (log grip) 50+minisx4x4 sets *tension was higher than last time since I could adjust the seat up, stretching the bands more Log grip chins bwx8x3 sets Tbar plate picks 90x5 135x5 180x5 225x3 *didn't feel like doing curls, so I rigged up a BB like you would do tbars, but grabbed the plates instead like a stone Less than 2 weeks to SMitV...not sure about how prepared I am, I'll feel better once classes start and my meal plan begins so I can EAT! |

Hey man looking good in here. Congrats on the deadlift pr's. You told me at the meet you were gonna set a pr the next workout and you did. Then the 405x4 rep pr, too. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the start of school. I'm in the same boat. I think once classes start it will be a lot easier to get into a good routine.

Yeah, I'll definitely have to practice some time management this semester. Between training, learning/practicing Russian, being on the exec board for the Christian fellowship, and all the reading associated with 2 history courses, I'll have my hands full. My neighbor asked me to be on rugby and I think I'll be turning that one down. Well at least "world music traditions" should be a breeze...aka clapping for credit...
