To those who work in a office setting

My current job is ending the end of September. As a result the 7 members of my department are forced to look for other positions. I chose the only office position avaiable because of the hours so I can continue to go to school. It is a 10 hour day deal. I have a 2 week trial in a few weeks.

I have never done an office job in my life, one of the things I am wondering is, eating habits in a office job. Being that you do not get alot of physcial activity do you tone down your food intake to keep the muscle there or what?

Currently I make ground turkey and mix it with kidney beans along with some ketchup or mustard and water. I don't know that this would be good if I am sedimentary. Maybe invest in protein bars? Or make peppered chicken breasts?

Can someone share something with me on this?
I may or may not stick with the position but if I do I need a game plan on this.

John

ok, a couple of things.

"a office setting" needs to be "an office setting"

and sedimentary is one of the three main types of rocks. the other types are igneous and metamorphic.

anyways, now that that is out of the way

I think it will depend on your body type. I personally don't change my eating all that much and I have a primarily office-type job. However, as Bhman has stated, I have an alien thyroid, so what you may need to do is just scale back the carbs during the slowest times of your day and replace those calories with some healthy fats.

Protein bars isn't the answer, IMO - full of junk and fillers.

Experiment a bit, you might also find you need to do a bit more cardio than usual to keep your metabolism running strong and to keep your BF at a respectable level.

hope that helps.

Im in the office 45-50hrs per week and I dont have any issues with eating or cutting back or anything like that. All my meals are pre-made and put in tupperware containers and I put them in my lunchbox before going to work (typically 1 shake and 3 other meals). When I get in the office, I put the food in the fridge (there is a kitchen right around the corner from my office). When its time to eat, I go get my food, heat it up, and eat.

Office jobs can be great, especially when people have birthdays or there are meetings where food is brought in. If anything, you will probably end up eating more. At least, those opportunities are present in my office.

I lift first thing in the morning and get to the office about 0600 or so. Unless you had a job outside and were getting your cardio that way, you may have to add in a few days here/there.

Best of luck w/ the new position.

Working in an office is great. It's just rest time for the next training session. I can eat my meals anytime I want. There's usually food/snacks a few times a week too, so that's nice when trying to get down some extra calories. We usually do bbq's and catered lunches several times a month too.

Walmart has their "equate" brand of products...check out their tuna packets. 45g protein per packet. Costs around 1.50.

haha @ alien thyroid

I sit at a desk all day and as long as you account those cals in your daily totals and keep track of how fat/lean you are it should all adjust fine in the end

on that note, I have found that I need 1-2 shakes per day as meals during work because of the nature of my job....sometimes it's either slamming a shake and running to an emergency or a last minute meeting, or missing a meal....I choose the shake

for lunch you could have a more filling solid meal to tide you over

solid food at breakfast and dinner and possibly at night and you should be all set

Thanks for the input!

Next week I will be in this office for a week to see if I like it. If I end up wanting it then I will probably be in there Oct 1. There is only 1 other lady in there during the shift That I am trying for. There are 2 other people in the department and they are down the hall.

The ladies in there now say they do not take a lunch break per se. They usually eat their lunch right there so they don't have to say that extra 30 minutes.

If I did tune it would have to be alabacore which is what I use anyway because it doesn't smell so bad. I will experiment with this and see what happens.

Funny thing, one of the guys in the warehouse could not believe I was going to try to do this position. He asked me if I could type. I told him 'yeah, 50-60 words a minutes' Then he said oh, well, you might do good then. Ha.
The shift is 4a-2:30pm. It would give me the opportunity to go back to school at night again to get an AA degree, I have 9 classes to go.

I must be the only one that thought that was funny as hell. You and I are definitely on the same wave length. LOL
