Just Getting Started!!

Hey Everyone!!

I am just getting started with training for a Figure competition. I have been working out for years, teaching group fitness classes for 2 1/2 years, and I felt it was time for a new challenge!!

I just started with a trainer TODAY! The show I am looking at isn't until April 2009, so I've got a while. (I am still nursing my 9 month old, so I can't do anything crazy diet wise until after October)

Currently I am 5'10" and 143, 18.6% body fat. My trainer says that right now I should be working on building lean muscle, so he has my calories set at like 3000. That sounds CRAZY to me! Does this sound right?? If so, how in the world do I eat that many calories?? I wrote everything down today, and was only at 1975..eek!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Jen in ATL

Ok, so I talked to my trainer again today, and he said not to increase my calories that much right now. Just go a little above what I normally do, and we'll go from there.

Well since the ladies of IM must be snoozing....

Welcome Jen. Are you allowed to put up your average diet and a sample week in the gym so people can get a better idea of what you are doing?

Look up Islandgirl in the journal section(might be female journals) to see how a lady puts down some serious food lol. You'll get used to it and learn to love it like the rest of us.

Hey Jen!

I'll just toss this out - its a general rule to really go with just one coach / trainer / guru. Its OK to gather other info. and perhaps run it by him / her, but I'd definitely let your trainer know that you're out investigating the process...

Are you doing one of Ropeman's shows?... Doc's shows?... (I did the NPC Mr. Atlanta in 2000.)

aloha Jen and welcome to IM !!

ScotMc mentioned IslandGirl putting the food down. In the off-season gaining mode, she would put in between 3200 and 3500 kcals daily, this is at 5'2. I big portion of those kcals came from white rice, she had to start slowly and build up to eventually 12 servings daily
