My new night time treat
Right, I was getting urges towards bed time for cereal in milk. Not good when they are full of carbs. I have found a great replacement!
25g Almonds = 5.5 g protein and 148 cal 25g Pumpkin seeds = 5g protein and 155 cal 25g Hazelnuts = 4g protein and 180 cal 25g cashew nuts = 5g protein and 155 cal put them in a bowl and pour over them a cup of soy milk = 8g protein and 131 cal Put it all together and you got 769 cal and 27.5 g of protein. Slam in a protein shake for afters with perhaps 46g protein and 223 cal (I live in UK so can't justify shipping for DC stuff, this is from MP.co.uk) So all together I fight my urge for cereal and get in 992 cal and 73.5g protein. Believe it or not it really is quite nice. |

Along with 50 grams of fat or more, probably a bit overkill, depending on your size...

I'm a hard gainer. Don't have it too close to bed time.
What does Dante suggest to use to get the calories up? Olive oil... Fat. Peanut butter is also used in some meals. |

Depends on what you are trying to 'gain' I guess. I know what you will if you keep having something like that.
Why not just have a whey or casein shake pre bed with 2 teaspoons of olive oil?

I see your point T5 but this isn't my pre-bed snack, for that I have a blend of protein with glutamine and bromeline. About 50g of protein but only 250 cal.
If my carb cut off is 5 hours pre bed like most here then I have a long wait between my meat and veg and my pre bed shake. I have found it hard to eat more meat and veg, I sometimes eat 5 eggs (2 yolks) in a salad and take in some olive oil. Looking at the nutritional content of nuts and seeds there is more than just fats and protein. You get a load of vitamins from them also. Look up any of the products in the list above and you'll see vitamin E,K, Iron, folic acid and a whole host of other beneficial qualities that most of us struggle to get. I personally am not fat, my BF content has never been more than 13% and it's normally somewhere around 10%. I don't have this meal every night, perhaps twice a week. It's not perfect I know and like anything there are things that some will not agree with but as I don't even come close to struggling with bodyfat but I do struggle with adding mass then this works for me. If I get fat from it I'll be sure to let you know and you can all say you told me so... |
