Gym etiquette - guys...show us girls a little love

I hope it's ok to gripe here in this thread. My hope is that I can make my workouts a little more pleasant. Not only for me, but for every other serious gym rat.

I get so annoyed when guys leave their weights racked on equipment. I don't get "as" annoyed when it's a few plates, but when guys leave hundreds of pounds of weights just sitting on equipment and I have to take them all off it wastes precious time. I'm a delicate girl and I can't lift a 100lb plate off the leg press by myself.

Also, alot of gyms now have organized dumbell racks with the weights listed on them. Can you guys PLEASE put the dumbells back in the right spot? Read the numbers, put DB's back in the right spot so that weights are easily and quickly accessed without trying to search all over for them. Please stack the pair together. I can't tell you how many times one of the DB's was here and the other was there. Don't put a set of 35lb dumbells in the spot where the 50's go cause you're too lazy to walk a few feet. And PLEASE!!!... putting the dumbells on the floor next to the rack isn't good enough. I don't like tripping over dumbells.

I found myself getting on a group of guys one day at the gym and hopefully embarrassing them enough to straighten out their act. I was nice about it, but remember...your mom doesn't work here. Clean up after yourselves and we'll all be happy.

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who don't rerack their weights.

That is why I can't wait until I own my own gym, and I can kick people out for not reracking weights. You get one warning and then your gone.

On the flip side though, I don't think it is just us guys that have the problems reracking weights. It is an overall problem. I see just as many women putting 10 pound dumbbells in the first empty spot they see, even if it says 50 on that spot.

I hate it when people don't rerack their weights. I don't think that it is specifically a male/female issue, but generally (and of course there are exceptions) the women aren't leaving 1000lbs on the leg press that I then have to strip off so that I can do my warm-ups.

Unfortunately those 2 main issues will probably never change. I just resign myself to the fact that the DB hunt is on everytime I need to use them lol. As for the sweating on the equipment, I dont usually have that problem cause I work out at 1:30 am, and the workers usually have cleaned the equipement by then. But I always have my towel, and then spray and wash with the cleaner stuff there. I have always hated leaving sweat on equipment, specially cause I always just drip LOL

Oh come on, guys! We out number them. If we all band together in a national campaign to wipe out all the gym sloths we can change things one by one. Don't be "scurred." The next time you see someon slacking in the gym, just say "Hey! Don't you know the gym is a sanctuary?! It's a holy and sacred place. Clean this mess up right now!"

Alright...I'm tired and low carbing...and I'm not serious.

The problem is only exacerbated when you leave all your weights stacked on the leg press, then some chick comes over and warms up with it !!!

My pet peeves:

1. People who use a bench as a place to set their keys or drinks. I remeber waiting for this bench and this girl just uses it to place her towel and keys on. When i asked her if I could use it, she tells me she is using it! Yeah right to place your towel on there so it wont get dirty? Get real!

2. People that lift weights on the heavy side of the gym. This guy uses 40 pound dumbbells and does benches on the side where 80-150 pound dumbbells are on. Why not use the bench where the light weights are and allow others who can handle heavier poundages use that bench so they can get their workouts done?

3. Gym groupies! Guys like the motivation and inspiration but come on... wearing heavy make up and just talking to guys just to hook up is getting old... if youre not giving me attention, dont give the guy next to me attention...its a waste of my time (IM JUST KIDDING)

4. People who dont wipe their sweat off the machines. This dude was using a bench and his back of the head sweat soaked oart of that bench...didnt know if I wanted to throw up or wipe it using my own towel. But Im hardcore like that and used my own towel and blew my nose with it

5. Guys who scream at the gym. Grunting is great but screamin? Id rather hear this one german girl I used to date scream. She was the best screamer I ever heard that It used to make me laugh a lot. Especially her clown faces. If you dont know what a clown face is...Ill tell you about that later

6. Poeple who dont want to share equipment. My friend and I were training at 24 Hr Fitness and needed to use a sqaut rack. We waited 15 minutes before hopping on the squat rach that seem unused even though it had plated on it. Guy came back and started screamin at us. We didnt do anything then but man I wish we kicked his ass...his ego didnt match his body

(alot of the things were said in jest so pleasee dont get upset at my humor)

I hate it when people put different plate "denominations" on the same peg. You have a 5 behind a 25 behind a 10 behind a 45...urge to kill...rising...

There aren't any girls at my gym (except the co-owner, other owner's wife). 0 girls. But, that is besides the point...actually come to think of it, the DB's are always out of order (except anything over 90, those are all organized correctly because they only fit on that one rack). Everyone just knows where all the DB's are, but they are not in any labeled location, the rust marks match the DB (hahaha)

There are some big sweaty guys there though, but they are a pretty respectful crowd...I'm glad I don't have to train at a 24hour place.

well get this...24 hr now has little stations all over the gym with disinfectant spray and paper towels for the members to clean up their own gunk....or in most cases, someone elses gunk...
( and the sign underneath the towels from management says " in case our wonderful cleaning crew missed a spot clean it your damn self ) lol

And they are being raised this way by the millions
Mommy and Daddy clean up my messes, I don't HAVE TO!
Mommy and Daddy are the a-holes leaving the stuff racked on the bars and machines
Narcicism is at an alltime high and it's just getting worse
Now this gym doesn't have the DB problem (plus I'm the only one who can use the 100's in the morning) but people leave their plates on everything

My take is this, If you can lift it, you can put it away, anything else makes you a selfish poser.
Girls, don't expect the guys to unrack the 45's if you walk off leaving the 10's on there too
Guys, can your MOM pull a 45 off, people her age use the machines too, you lazy creeps.

Just my $.02 worth
