So today is an off day so so training news. I am going to watch a powerlifting meet today to see Detazathoth compete, so that should be fun. It is a push-pull meet and I am excited to see what a meet is like. After today I will have seen bodybuilding, strongman and powerlifting so it will neat to compare them. Detazathoth has been training his ass off so i really want to show some support and watch him rip it up. He's a beast. I'll tell people my thoughts once I get back.

Things are coming together for goign back school, though it's been busy. It's funny, it never used to be this much of ordeal going back in the fall but after 2 years off it seems like I have more loose ends to tie up here and I have that feeling little kids get when they go to school for the the first time.

Alright guys, I know the month is only half over but I have to decide which video to use for ISOM this month because I probably won't be doing any at school, so I'm open to suggestions. I already have a bunch from this month but I have to pick just one.

I'm thinking either 37 rep squats http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_CkW_Buez4

box squats http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6hYUU6aohI

machine laterals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPTWupPlwzM

I'm open to any suggestions though. I want to do squats just because I worked really hard to be able to do these this summer so it seems like a good way to cap it off. I did rack chins last month so I don't want to do that again, and the sldl video I like but there are a lot of pauses to add weight so that makes for a boring video.

Have a good weekend guys!

Bruno, I would say the squats. You have come a long way just to do them. Then to accomplish that brutal set speaks wonders about your drive and determination. What school are you attending?

Enjoy the meet, bruno. That should be cool to be able to compare all three--especially when they were all within a very short time period.

Those box squats were bad ass, bro.

Sounds unanimous for the squats, so I will say the laterals.

Just kidding, go with the squats Have a good time at the meet. I am hoping to goto a strongman meet next weekend, and thats the one I want to enter next year. If I had started training a couple months earlier, I would have entered this one this year.

and you ask if you need to step up the intensity, a true DC trainee wouldn't need to ask himself that question, he would already be training with full intensity, this isn't a program for "a pretty high intensity", it's for a kick in the balls intensity where you always try to get that extra rep - Equill

So it seem like 3 for box squats and 3 for regular squats? Or are the squat folks meaning the box squats too? Decisions, decisions.

So I just got back from the meet and it was AWESOME. It was just a push/pull meet so it wasn't very long, but it was a lot of fun. There were people there from a lot of different skill levels and there were some very advancued guys. One guy pulled a 735 pound deadlift and another guy benched 650. It was crazy to see because I honestly have never seen anyone pull over 445 (me lol) or bench 315 because like I said, my gym does not have a lot of strong people. The atmosophere was awesome with good loud music and lots of supportive, cool people. I liked it a lot more than the atmosphoere at the bodybuilding show. The guy that benched 650 was helping the newer lifters with technique and giving training tips in between his lifts. I was very impressed with the sportsmanship.

It was great to meet detazatoth and he did great. He NAILED all 3 attempts in the deadlift and his 3rd attempt with 480, which was a pr, came up very fast and looked like he could have done more. I was really impressed.

I'd go with the box squats, although they are all intense.

Watch out for the march of shame in Columbia

lol that is hilarious. Don't worry though gb, in my 2 years there, no walks of shame to date (knock on wood, lol). I've been one of the lucky ones.

Last leg day in my gym...tear

Today was the last leg day in my gym and those of you that follow my journal know how much I like legs, lol. I wanted to make the workout one to remember, and I think I did that. I used to have a coach that would say "leve it all out on the field" and there have been times when i have thought about thhat in the gym. to me, intensity has also been leaving it all in the gym. That cliche took on a new meaning today though since it was last day there, so I really did think about leaving it ALL in the gym. I got some videos to leave you guys with since I doubt I will able to film at school.

I started with front squats. Last time I did these I barely made the last rep of each set, so I was hesitant to add weight, but I decided to man up and add 5 pounds. When I went to do the first though, I looked the bar and thought "what's another 5 pounds?" so I ended up adding 10 pounds to every set from last time and still matching the reps. The last rep of my heavy set was SLOW and I really didn't think I was going to get it because it stalled half way up. On the back off set, the same thing happened, though since the weight was lighter I could get it up. On the widow though, that was the first time my legs literally gave out after the set. Sometimes they are so wobbly that I sort of fall over, but today my left leg literally collapsed. That widowmaker was brutal. For anyone that has done freebar front squats, you know the widowmaker is very hard because you can't really rest and breathe between reps like with sqauts because, well, you can't really breathe, lol. After rep 16 I thought there was no way in hell I was getting to 20 but I somehow did, though the last rep I was sort of collapsing mid rep and sort of heaved the bar on the rack, lol. Anyway, I was very happy with these sets.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

After this I was spent, but I still did deadlifts. It's funny because last night I was talking to Scoot McDonough about moving on Thursday and he was like "don't do deadlifts" and I agreed with him. Well, that lasted all of about 8 hours. Like I said, I wanted to end with a bang. I really wanted to do 455 today for a single, but I did not think a single would be smart. So I did a set with 365, then 405, then I was about to call it good because they were good sets. I have heard some people though talk about higher rep deadlifts being even harder than squats, so I said fuck it, let's try it.

My first time doing deadlifts I got 325x4, so today I put 325 on the bar for my final set. Well, I got 14. This was ridiciouslously hard and I have a ton of respect for anyone that grinds out high rep deadlifts on a regular basis. I have done it with rack pulls, but this was a lot harder. The last 4 reps here were brutal and I still dont know how I locked them out. I was happy to go from 4 reps to 14 reps in about 3-4 months.

YouTube Video

After deadlifts I was essentially dead but I did do a few sets of hammer strength hacks and lying leg curls just because they don't have these in my school gym and I wanted to do them one last time. These sets were worthless though and I was just going through the motions. I finished with calves (which I tried barefoot and love it--thanks fade) and some biceps.

All and all today was a great way to finish up in the gym. I am going to miss it, lol. I think I am going to go back through my old logbooks from the past several months and see my progress too. The bad part about the workout today is now I am even more conflicted about which video to use for ISOM. I was debating between the squats and box squats, but I sort of want to use one of the ones for today. I miss I could do all 4, lol.

Just when I think you cant top anything that youve done...seriously, bruno. Those front squats were crazy. Breathing on those are definitely a biatch. You smoked those, bro. Great job on pushing through.

And adding 10+reps on deadlifts with the same weight in 3/4 months is just ridiculous. It must be all those PESs (Performance Enhancing Shirts) you have won/been wearing. Its truly been a pleasure watching your progress over these past few months. Funny how when we get into the gym, we change our mind on doing something, like you adding deads in when moving in a few days.

I still have an old logbook on my dresser that I have yet to go through..would love to see the comparison as well.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Fucking monster is what you are! Awesome!

I need to go through some of my old logs either here or in my books and see what I was doing, and how I am measuring up as well. But I have only been back since July, so I have some time. Maybe check around my birthday in Sep, that will be a little over 3 months for me
