I read the sticky on nutrition charts posted by MB.
Specifically I was interested in finding GI ratings for many common foods (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc) I searched around at nutritiondata.com (which rocks by the way) and I found a link directing me to the international database for GI's headed by Human Nutrition Unit, School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences, University of Sydney. The link is http://www.glycemicindex.com/ If you go to the database link on the left hand side of the page you're directed to a search engine which has 3 criteria: Food, Glycemic Index, and Glycemic Load. Here's my question. What is the relationship between Glycemic Index and Glycemic load. I've never even heard of Glycemic load until now. If anyone can explain the significance of a GL to me I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks, Ali_D |

http://www.nutritiondata.com/help/es...-glycemic-load
from what i get from it is the measure of how the food (serving size) will affect your blood sugar.

Thanks for the link.
It's interesting when you compare Mac and Cheese to Ice Cream. Both have about the same GI but two very different GL's. I guess since it's difficult to precisely know how many net carbs are in any item you eat the GL would probably be a better criteria when trying to moderate blood sugar levels. Of course I will keep in mind fat content and calories in the overall picture as mentioned in the link. Thanks again MM |
