1st comp.....feeling flat

I'm about 8 weeks out from my 1st natty comp. When I kicked off the pre-contest diet proper I had a big time reality check when I had my skinfolds done and they were, shall we say, higher than I would have hoped BF% wise. Fortunately I am under the training and nutrition guidance of a very experienced natty competitor and coach and I dropped significant fat and BF% to the point that I think I am exactly where I need to be right now.

That being said, with the depletion of carbs I have started to feel a little weaker in certain exercises in the gym, particularly in the quads. Well I assume the fact that I'm not ingesting so much coupled with the fact I am still training very hard is the reason why I'm feeling this way.

My question is, is the flatness and drop in strength I am feeling a stock standard part of preparation? I'm pretty sure it is, but I'm wondering if people could share some experiences of what they feel strength and well being wise as the comp gets closer.

As an indication, I have dropped from 107.7kg to 93.5kg in a bit over 12 weeks (just over 30lbs)

the drop in strength is normal and feeling flat is well . but you should consider carb up days to keep your metabolism rolling and that your progress won't stall . the drop in strength , IMO , should not be something to worry in the early stages of the prep . when you get to the 4-6 weeks out marker , and you are on track , then you could start to experience drops in strength which are normal .

good luck for your show !

Bernard,

Check out a nice, basic, program. I suggest getting a copy of Rippetoe's Starting Strength and McRobert's Brawn as a place to start.

Good luck and take your time. You'll need to build a lot of basic mass and strength before you need to concern yourself with actual bodybuilding stuff.

Make it fun for yourself.

well....as far as the precontest goes...i would keep an eye on your weight but don't stresss yourself out about it....you do want to monitor it though for sure.

as wake mentioned above, carb up days are definitely a good option to pursue, either on the weekend or sometime in between (there are options) but is definitely a good way to keep your muscles decently full and your energy up (as much as it can be) and your metabolism rolling...otherwise stick to the diet.

good luck broseph.

What about some energy supps? Also, I agree with wake, that you should include some hi carb days.
