Yea mine is a Police working dog trained in narcotics, handler protection, area and building searches and tracking. hes not so high strung. Funny story about my dog. We were all at my moms house having dinner. Me the wife, sister, brother and there familys. My dog goes on the porch which is connected to the dining room and starts scratching a pack of cigerettes that were on the ground. I kept telling him to leave it alone not thinking much of it, after all we were at my moms!! He continues scracthing at it and I finnally get up and open it. Sure enough my brother had a roach inside the packet!! I just looked at him and laughed my ass off.

They can be high strung when they're young but usually mellow out with age, it takes a little longer if they haven't been spayed or neutered. Both of the Akitas I've had have been gentle with and protective of my kids. Besides not liking other dogs, they have one more bad trait....they don't generally make a sound when the go in to "attack" mode. They don't snarl or growl or anything, they just get after it. If your buddy is getting a puppy he'll have little to no problems (except they destruction of inanimate objects if they get bored). They also seem to learn quickly, just let them know who the boss is.

BTW i was not tring to sell my service. I just re-read my post that I wrote in an hurry. I would be more than happy to help some one know how to make their own dog food. Too much junk goes in packaged dog food and there is only a hand full of foods you can trust.

fila. I used to have one. was the most aggressive dog I have ever owned. loved him though.
I have now a white Aussie bulldog , she flares up all the time and itches herself till she bleeds. any tips on fixing that?

Yea the fila is a great dog to the ones he loves. What are you feeding the aussie? I always start with the food. I did not see the brand in your post. are the flare ups seasonal?

my fila was a champion. he won a European title even though he bit the judge that was stupid enough to check his teeth's.
I feed my bulldog non allergenic food, that was the first thing I suspected. and she flares-in all seasons. she smells so bad now my wife does not let her in the house, I feel so bad for her.

HaHa The fila is one of the only dogs the judge is never to touch in the ring. The ARBA club is starting this rule with most mastiff breeds.
Unfortunately just because the food is hypo-alrgenic she can still have problems. what is the primary meat and grains in the food. I can write you a diet if I can know what to avoid. I will use stuff she has not had to start fresh and add in things slowly to she what she can handle. I will also need her weight, age, and need to know if she has been spayed. |

I love large breed dogs. Growing up, my parents raised Saint Bernards, I actually rode one of them like a horse. Currently I have a half Akita half Husky and she did not get as big or as fluffy as I wanted her to get. She got up to about 75 lbs. She is 13 now and still gets around great. Her hip is starting to go out on her, but she does not act like it hurts when it happens and within the last year, she has thyroid issues and diabetes. Getting old sucks. She is the friendlist dog in the world to people, but she doesn't relate well with other dogs. She won't attack them, but she definitly does not want to socialize with them and her hackles are always up, even when she is just playing. I have always given her dry food has been on Nutro for many years, I get the formula (yellow bag) with the most condroitin sulfate and MSM in it because of her hip issues. I've had her since she was 6 weeks old, she is very smart, picks things up for you, sits up, rolls over, shakes, spins, etc. The hardest thing to teach her was to bark when someone knocked on the door, but she does that great now.

Late to the party, but I've got a 17x pound English Mastiff. He's still got a little growing to do as he'll be 2 in Nov. I feed him Nutro, but Cerberus is right on with the raw food diet. I've actually considered switching several times, but just not ready to commit to the extra prep. And like BB_NPC_225's, he's pretty timid for a dog his size.

She's Beautiful Easto. I have a male GSD who is 6. He only eats organic dog food ( as do my wife and I ) and i use a low fat no wheat dog food made by Innova. We have experimented a lot with other foods and he seems to do the best with high protein gluten free foods. Diet is a huge key to keeping your pup healthy. I also adjust ( I am a Doctor of Chiropractic) my dog regularly and i have helped him through some serious problems that most vets would have put him down for. Supplement with a little powdered Vitamin C ( Sodium Ascorbate) and olive oil and they will be good to go.

Hank sitting on my brother's lap. This was taken last February (just over a year old) - he's a bit bigger now (the dog, not my brother).

Anyhow..my pops used to boil chicken necks & thighs with rice and put it over the dry food..I'm not sure what else he did but his pups/dogs were almost always bigger, stronger and better looking than its littermates My brother started feeding his dogs raw chicken and they are enormous with no health problems (so far) |

I have a 70 lb boxer (Roxy) she turned 9 yrs. old today. She's built like a Rotti instead of slim like most boxers, her tail was docked when we rescued her from her original owner at 8 weeks old, we never did her ears so she will always look like a puppy. She's a typical boxer, she bends in half when she gets excited, when we go for a walk she tries to box people's lawn ornaments LOL! We also have a 12 yr. old 43 lb. Chinese Shar-Pei (Abbey-Ling)

Well, Nutro used to be a very highly recommended high quality food. Apparently they were bought out not too long ago and have been having some problems. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...recalls98.html I'm taking him off Nutro soon as possible. Just a head's up if anyone else was using it. Cerberus, I'm PM'ing you for info on feeding him raw. |
