COntest Prep Length

Question in regards to being ready atleast 6 week out...i did a show JUNE 2nd where i took the overall to recieve my natural PRO card and now have plans to do a show in AUG, which is like 8 weeks out. I was about 93% at the show, being that i could have been a lighter leaner, glute striations which are coming in at the moment...so my ??? is what is the typical protocol to not loose the mass after you've reached the conditioning you want... i know some people state that you should up your calories, or even carbs to help maintain the mass.....any help would be great

thanks

Jay

You need to use the scale and mirror (more so the mirror) to keep the look you want. It will take some adjustment in calories. Raise them up some and if the look disappears, back them off some till you find out exactly how many you need to hold a certain conditioning.

I did this exact same thing this off season. I achieved a certain look I wanted to start with on my contest phase of dieting. I experimented rasing calories and got to a certain point where the look disappeared. I then lowered them and through this process of raisng and lowering, I found out how many calories and the ratio of macros I needed to hold the look I wanted.

I typically manipulate the ratio of fat/carbs depending on what is going on with a client's condition. As an example for the last week of a show: If you come into the last week of the show full and pretty much ready to go, you may have 200g of carbs per day and maybe something like 100g of fat. As the days get closer you would simply adjust the carb/fat totals to reflect how you are looking. If you are flattening out you would increase the carbs and decrease the fat slightly. If you are full and starting to get a bit watery or losing detail, increase the fat and decrease the carbs. If you are losing bodyweight, increase both carbs and fat equally.

This was what I intended to say but Skip said it better and was more descriptive. Skip is the man!
