Some horror movies I've seen recently:
The Orphanage, very good movie, one of the better ones in a while.
Teeth, not bad, more humorous than anything.
Jesus Camp, technically not a horror movie but still very frightening.

i totally want to see jesus camp, its pretty much a biography about my mom lol.. was it as awesome as the previews made it out to be?

me and the wife have been rewatching the Hellraiser series, but I am working on getting all of the Hombre Lobo "Wolfman" series from Spain starring Paul Naschy, anyone that likes campy classic monster movies can totally appreciate these films, tons of gratuitous nudity, blood, and gore! check out:

-Frankensteins Bloody Terror
-Night of the Werewolf
-Werewolf Shadow
-Curse of the Devil

You can probably find it on google video. It left me shaken for days.

The new movie "Quarantine" looks pretty good; like a cross between blair witch and cloverfield.

"Inside". I can't reccomend it enough. It's a truly disturbing film. Before I watched it I thought I was completely desensitized to violence - I was wrong.

I saw the girl next door....I think its the best scary movie I've ever seen. On the cover, steven king says that its the first real horror movie he's seen in 20 years, I figured I'd give it a shot. He didn't lie.

Just saw an older Japanese flick called Suicide Club, its pretty amazing, gratuitous gore but funnily enough it plays well with the rather serious, introspective social commentary. First black comedy I have seen come out of Japan as well, highly recommended!

Saw Brutal Massacre too, which I have been looking forward to for years. First half hour is very witty and smart, lot of inside jokes genre fans can definitely appreciate. The rest slows to a snails crawl, still entertaining, some laughs, but overall unless you are a big fan of previous genre stars David Naughton, the ladies of Evil Dead, Gunner Hansen, and Ken Foree, Id say pass. Stick with Behind the Mask.

Been rewatching a bunch of stuff I already reviewed in here lately, but I did pick up "Beware! Children at play", which should have been titled "Beware! This movie sucks and it has terrible acting, directing, plot, character development, lighting, editing, dialouge, and set design, but a few ok shots of kids being shot in the face or pitchforked in the neck, Part II", I dont recommend it

"Pitchforked in the neck" reminds of the Mystery Science Theater episode "The Touch of Satan," where a burn-scarred old witch does just that to some farmer and Tom Servo goes, "When sore throat pain strikes..."

I miss that show, luckily most episodes are on youtube.

Caught Aliens vs. Predator 2: Requiem last night. Slight improvement over the first one, but only because it's rated R and thus you get some gore happening.

Overall, the filmmaking was way too dark. I actually thought something was wrong with my TV for the first half hour. After fooling with my levels, I realized the flick is just the fucking black...you can't tell what's going on most of the time.

There were more monster fights this time around, but they weren't as expertly staged as the first one. The Aliens are supposed to be fast, the Predators agile and skilled fighters. In part 2, they look exactly like men in heavy rubber suits trying to fight each other.

I do enjoy the crossover movies on their own merits, but I have a hard time accepting them as part of the "canon" of both franchises. Ripley fought to keep the aliens from getting to earth hundreds of years in the future, but they all already here in multiple places in the present day. The predators hunt in very hot weather (not on antartica or the rockies in fall), and would never kill an unarmed person running away from them. Crap like that.

Maybe I'm making to much of this stuff...

have you guys seen the preview for the new one with keanu reeves? "you should let me go." I think it will either suck really bad or be really good.

I havent even heard of it, is it on DVD or heading into theaters?

Off subject but did anyone else read the news that Chris Nolan is considering casting Cher as Catwoman in Batman Begins 3: The Caped Crusader? Alls Im saying is huh? Whaaa? When? Why?

Dude, I couldnt have said it better, if any of the movie was watchable I think it would be way more enjoyable, I think its a great popcorn flick but I tried playing it on the HD, on the CRT, on the computer, changing all the settings, and nothing makes the movie watchable. I heard they actually damaged the original prints or something where they were unable to add any additional lighting in post production to recover the imaging. Hopefully they learned their lesson / will make the next one with more lighting and in the future and add ultimate badass space marines!

I also hated how in Part 2, the Alien blood was only selectively acidic. A drop of facehugger blood land's on the dad's arm, and it melts off. The predator shoves his wrist-blades into an alien's neck, he's fine and dandy.

yeah that was interesting as well, I noticed the same thing and was confused because the wrist blades in the first movie all got melted off from the acid, no continuity to the previous films or even the film they were making!

didnt get to watch anything this weekend amazingly, I nerded out and bought all 291 episodes of Dragonball Z from some kid on craigslist so I have been watching that all week.. DBZ is still cool right..? lol

Dragonball Z is cool if you are in the fourth grade in the year 2000.

Finally caught the Rob Zombie "Halloween." Really impressed with the first half, thought it kinda ran out of steam towards the end. Hope they don't try to weasel a sequel out of Michael taking a bullet in face. Maybe "The Shape" is made of kevlar, lol.

BTW, Post number 666 in the Horror Movie Thread. Bet on it!

Damn i didnt even catch that we got that far.. in like a ninja!

I thought the sequel was decent, but after the initial changes he made in extending the introduction of the character, it really felt to me like the movie became a rushed shot-for-shot remake a la Psycho, and that it stopped offering anything else that was new or different. My biggest gripe is exactly the same thing though, the movie just keeps going and going and is seemingly unending.. I check out before they ever get into the attic. I am absolutely certain they will continue the franchise though one way or another, it is too big a cash cow to end it with a bullet in the head despite what Zombie originally intended.

Let me know what you think Cnizz. Like I said, it was pretty good. I'm not saying a blockbuster hit but, kept me entertained for 2 hrs.
Let me know of any newer good ones. Halloween is almost here and I go apeshit for horror flicks this time of year.
