I usually put a ton of water in mine, microwave it, stir in some Stevia. I drink all the water out then eat the oatmeal that is left over. If I'm in a hurry, I will just put water in it and eat it, completely plain, not cooked. I use the old fashioned kind. I figure it will take my body longer to process it. When I'm water depleting two days before a competition, I will eat it dry with some Fructose.

Is there a major difference between eating them and drinking them?
It takes me forever to eat oatmeal so I usually put a cup in the coffee grinder, grind it up real fine, put in a shaker, add protein powder and splenda, then bottoms up.

I don't think it makes a difference. I'd just do what you like better. I know a lot of people like them in shakes but personally I like them hot, so I go with that, but in terms of nutrition I don't think it matters

Good call here, Geese. I went out today and got me a $13 coffee grinder from Wal-Mart and tried a half-cup of oatmeal in it and it just obliterated it into a fine powder that should mix well in shakes just by stirring it in.

I think the blades on my blender got a bit dull or something, because it didn't seem to be touching the oatmeal at all - I'd mix protein power and oatmeal together and have to scoop out the oatmeal with a spoon afterward and it looked barely touched.

But the coffee grinder took care of that problem - just obliterated it. Problem is I got a cheap, small one, and I can only grind a half-cup of oatmeal at a time. Still, that's not a big problem.

I used to cook up the 2 cups (large flake whole oats) and pour like 500ml of chocolote flavoured team skip mix or whey isolate over it, but it would take me over 1/2h to eat it.

Then I started doing what you guys are doing, blending into a fine powder, and drinking in protein shake.

I think this does 3 thinks

(1) Allows me to get it down and over with fast.

(2) Increases the amount of nutrients that are actually absorbed.

(3) Raises the GI and can be a little more fattening.

When grinding the oats, do they sink to the bottom if it isn't consumed immediately after putting it in shake?

They may... I personally don't bother grinding them. Just swirl your shaker bottle around while your drinking it and they won't sink.

Blended with berries or frozen fruit and a banana. The banana and fruit help keep the mixture thick so that the oats don't sink to the bottom.

I mix in some cut up chicken or tuna fish with my oatmeal : )

The one thing I hate eating is dry chicken or dry tuna fish. Mixing them with oatmeal helps me to eat the chicken or tuna fast Sometimes i put in some chili spices and it actualyl taste like you are eating chicken stew or something : )

Trust me, its not that bad

If you mix tuna and oatmeal its pretty cost effective too : )
