Working behind the scenes of a comp

How do they choose the people who work behind the scenes at the competitions?

Are they just the employees of the convention center or arena where the show is being held?

Are they only local people?

I live an hour from Louisville KY so I was wondering about the Northern Kentucky show and possibly getting to work it or attend the show in 2008.

Unfortunately I can't attend this year so I'm shooting for the 2008 show.

I'm not sure about other states, but here in Co. Jeff (NPC chairperson) has a staff that does all the backstage stuff. If he needs additional help, he will ask for volunteers. Sometimes the venue will provide some of their employees and these peeps will typically stand at the doors and take tickets or are just around to help where needed.

You should contact the person in charge for that show and ask if you can volunteer to help out.

Thank you for the information, I might just contact them and see what they say. The worst thing they can tell me is no.

I will be promoting my first show (The NPC Heartland Natural Classic) on April 5, 2008 and we have sought out specific people to work at our show. We wanted those who exhibited a positive atititude and were dependable. We want all of our competitors and audience members to go away with a positive experience.

These people must leave their ego at the door... it's not about them today but rather they must serve our program vision of providing this first class experience. To those who are wishing to volunteer and I didn't know well, I have placed them in jobs were they may not have much contact with others to help lessen the chance they do not live up to our expectations.
