SO in order for me to protect my knees I should go as low as possible, or should I just stick with the box squats.:

Save your knees... stick with box squats.

I just started implementing box squats.

I know they help beginners "sit back properly" but is it wise to wait awhile to use the box squat for further gains?

It seems everyone in the article started off normally squatting--then went on to box squat and saw huge gains.

Is the box squat something you wouldnt want to use until you HAD to?

you dont have to wait to start using box squats . there is no set level of experience required before you start implementing them in your training .

there not like bands or chains where you start using them once you have built a good strength base and need to get past sticking points .

use box squats now if you want too .
