Aloha Shanique. What a pretty name! So glad to have you here on IM! We have a past client who is from Jamaica too, but lives here in CO. Long story short with Yvonne. She was prepping for the USA's last year with us (4 girls altogether) and found out a couple weeks before that she needed to be a US citizen to compete. So unfortunately, she could not come with us to Vegas. What federation do you compete in? Oh and congrats on all of your accomplishments!!

Bankerbabe and myself DC train so feel free to look over our journals and start one up yourself when you feel ready.

Hope to hear from you real soon!

Tracy

Thanks Tracy! My fellow Jamaican must have been dissappointed but that's the thing I realize! In order to compete in NPC you have to be a US citizen. there are other org's that wil allow foreigners to compete in like the INBF/WNBF, SNBF. I am preparing to compete in my first show in November (INBF) my first overseas show ever! The IFBB sanctioned org in my country is part of the IFBB Caribbean orgn However, I recently dissassociated myself from it becuz of the inefficiencies, inadequacies and unprofessionalism of the ppl running it. That's why i began looking into competing via INBF. I learnt about the org'n late 2006 and after the last fiasco with my local BBng orgn i buckled up and decided to go for it. Given also that I am going natural it seemed only logical to give it a try.

I would have aimed for the INBF Caribbean Grand Prix in April, but becuz i switched gears i decided to put it off, train hard, make some developments and see what happens. My prep is very hard, even this far off, becuz of what I am trying to accomplish (gain lean mass) and different from figure (certainly as far as eating more and cardio is concerned). That's why i want to give DC training a try which is ONLY 1/2 the challenge. The rest is to maintain the clean eating, rest and recovery program.

I hope to learn alot from ya'll.

Yvonne (screen name "Yardy") has a couple videos up in the sticky here. She is tall, 5' 10 1/2". You're pretty tall yourself and WOW, great avatar! You have an amazing back! Have you ever thought about doing bb'ing?

I think you will be quite pleased with DC! We also have a forum on DC if you have any questions.

Really glad to have you here!

Actually tracy, bbing is what I am looking towards now, hence the 'bulk' i referred to earlier. i chose to give bb'ing a go becuz i have to work too hard to maintain the soft look that is more desirable for figure competitors and I seem to get pretty ripped quit eeasily once my diet and training is on spot. So i am working towards my first bb'ing show in november, hence why i want to give DC training a shot.

Thanks for the encouragement, it adds a bit more to my efforts!

Ah, the name...
I'm an esthetician so I do much waxing. I do a lot of other things, too, but waxing raises the most eyebrows, so to speak.
I've been weight training for about 6 years now in an effort to discover my inner athlete. I've never been competitive (except for with myself) or involved in sports, however I do have the genes for it. I usually went dancing on the weekends in college to stay fit. Now 10 years later I'm really enjoying exercise. Although I'm not yearning to compete, I find it inspiring to "hang out" with fitness professionals.
My goals are to reach a 18% bf and gain more muscle mass.
Cheers!

Hello Everyone!

I have been lurking around this forum after bcylee introduced me to this site. In Janurary I began copying bankerbabe's DC program and have seen amazing results in strength and fatloss (even though as of late my diet has gone to shit). I have found the most beneficial aspect of DC to be learning my own strength and ability-boy, I was really wussing out!

I am currently attempting to help my best friend prep for her first fitness modelling competion, FAME Toronto 2008. What I am looking for is any advice I can get, any articles, threads, or readings I should be doing that are relevant to training and diet. I'm no newbie to fitness as a Kine student, t-nation.com addict and gym-a-holic, but there is always someone better (actually, on this site...a lot of people), and most importantly more knowledgable.

All of you are truely inspiring! Thank you for sharing your journey with me.

Sincerely,

"Team Awesome"
Janet (and Amber)

A little about me. I am from Jamaica, 28 yrs old, 5ft 8in, 163lbs. Been lifting for about 6 yrs now, competed 3 yrs in figure (placed 2nd in my last competition - June 2007) and i am totally addicted to it. I started in the weights room to overcome a sports related injury as well as to improve my volleyball game and fell in love with it. So much so that i dont play indoor vball anymore, got AFAA certified and now teach fitness and aerobic classes part time at one of the Elite gyms in my town.

No kids, 1 boyfriend, who is also into bbing (he doesnt compete) but loves it enough to committ himself to it and supports me in my efforts to compete hopefully on the bigger stage one day. I would really love to turn Pro and i am going try my best to achieve it with God's help.

I have been reading about DC training for a couple weeks now and I am certain that its the next step I have been searching for. Talk about intense!! Scary but seriously exciting at the same time. My Bf recently started DC and i will be making the switch in another few weeks. I am by no means near where i would like to be physically but I am so determined to get there.

I am on a path to compete in november this year (2008) and as such am working on the bulk. i was so skinny for my last competition i decided to build a little and I have been doing it on my own with the help of the different boards and the many others that have been there b4. So as i take this journey i hope to share it with ya'll and draw inspiration from you.

Thats all from me for now.

i will post pics later on.

Welcome to IM! This is the place to be for hardcore chicks... and good luck getting rid us too!

This is actually my first post on Intense Muscle. These forums seem pretty friendly and uncorrupted, very refreshing! I'm 28 yrs old/5'9.5"/160lb contest and sometimes 200lb off season (but always tight and proportioned). I currently reside in Missouri, but I lived in Honolulu for the past 7 years until July '07. I have always worked out @ Gold's Gym and I really miss all my peeps @ Gold's Honolulu! I first competed when I was 25yrs old, in Figure/Tall in the 2005 NPC Hawaiian Islands BB'ing/Figure/Fitness show--and took 3rd in my class (of 4 people, lol). I then went on to compete in the 2005 NPC Paradise Cup, but didn't place. I tried to compete in the 2007 Hawaiian Islands, but my body wouldn't allow it and I had to throw in the towel 7 weeks out.
I did promotions for Fitness Warrior Hawaii/Fitness and Nutrition Inc. in '07, and repped for them at several BB'ing shows, but didn't compete--HUGE disappointment! But eh, that's why my signature is "NEVER GIVE UP!" One of my power lifter braddahs @ Gold's HNL once told me to just always, always keep lifting and loving the sport, no matter what life throws at you. I've been burnt out, injured, sick, chubby, depressed, etc. but I just stick out my chin and trot my ass back into the gym, put the earphones on, and do what I do. I love the feeling from a job well-done, knowing that some of the people work as hard as me, but NO ONE works harder, and I don't care if I win or lose on stage. For me, it comes from the heart, but I give a lot of credit to my coaches/mentors/fellow athletes for making me want to keep doing this, even when I get smacked down.
I would like to try to compete again in the 2008 season, and the Arkansas State Champs on August 16 is a realistic goal (18 weeks, and I'll need every one of 'em. I'm an endomorph and all natural save for some ma juang and tribulus). It's 50/50 whether I can make it though, cuz I got a sick Momma to take care of and she is my priority, as is my own health/well being. God willing, I will compete again. If not, I will still be in the gym with my headphones on. For anyone who took the time to read my little blurb, thank you and best of luck to everyone on their fitness quests, whatever they may be.

Hey everybody, it's been a long while since I've been on Intensemuscle. I've been involved in athletics for awhile always playing sports in school. Division AA Swimmer in college. If I wasn't at practice I was in the gym lifting weights with my dad after school. I used to lie about my age so I could sneak in the weight room. I still have a membership at the YMCA where it all started. I've had that membership for 12 years or so and when I visit my parents I go and workout there. I say hi to all the members and the people who work there. It's cool they like to keep tabs on me and see where I'm at.

I trained solo for a long time until I went to college at the University of Montana. I started training with some NGA Pro Bodybuilders in 2005 and I finally built enough confidence to compete as a natural bb. It was tough going though and had to pull out of my first competition because I couldn't balance training, a full time job, and full time academia. It was next to impossible. Disappointed but not discouraged.

Soon after Montana I moved to Honolulu and after catching the marathon/triathlon fever I just focused on conditioning. I was leaner than I'd ever been without dieting. I looked in the mirror in 2006 and said, "sh*t I can do a figure competition tomorrow." Lol. I think my first post on Intensemuscle was asking about Pro Tan. I didn't have a clue. So I got online, found a random show and four weeks later I was on stage in Iowa grabbing my second place trophy. Lol

Back in Honolulu I decided to get serious about training again and picked up a membership at Gold's for a minute. Being from the Rockies though, I felt lonely, too shy to talk to Chis Faildo and all the other NPC people at the gym I continued to train solo. I missed home. So I packed my suitcase and arrived in Denver, Colorado early 2007. When I said suitcase I mean just a the clothes on my back and a suitcase. ha. I took out a signature loan to get back on my feet, got an air mattress, some paper plates, and a couple camping chairs and moved in to an apartment across the parking lot from the gym.

I was ready to rock and wrote the 2007 Fitness Fiesta on my schedule to make my Colorado debut. Once again I fell upon hard times financially and emotionally. I was gaining weight and barely making the ends meet. Training wasn't fun, I was miserable so I dropped it all to pull myself back together.

I regrouped, focused on my finances and in November I decided DAMNIT! I'M GOING TO DO THIS! I wanted to compete nationally and didn't have the patience to wait until the Mile High to qualify. I still didn't have the resources to hire a trainer so I scooped up all my research and avice I'd received from other competitors and stepped on stage April, 5th 2008 in Minneapolis.

I didn't bring my best package, not quite lean enough, and my diet was very inconsistant. Luckily I accepted my 3rd place trophy it was a long, lonely, difficult prep with a little help at the end from NPC Super-Heavyweight Keith Williams, but my desire and passion kept me going. I've been training for so long, my nice shape, great stage presence, and symmetry was enough to qualify. Yes! DAMNIT! I DID IT! I DID IT! Whew! Thank god!

So I'm back in the gym with Carla Sanchez and the PR Team to get ready for Jr. Nationals 2008. I'm confident, focused, and excited to start the journey. My time has arrived!
Nice to meet all of you and I'm grateful for all the help I've received from the INTENSEMUSCLE Team.
