Competition checklist...

we all have them...things that we have to have for a comp...some are obvious, some are not, and some you've stumble across along the way...y'all post up some must haves for prepping for the show on the big day...we can make it a good reference point to come back to for anyone taking on their first show...

CHECKLIST

SUITS!!!
heels (if needed)
props (if needed)
makeup
emergency tanner
gloves
adhesive
extra crystals
scissors
flipflops
hairspray
curling/flat iron
coverups for all that waiting around
food!
hair clips of all shapes and sizes
hot stuff oil/pam/posing oil
jewelry
npc card

what else am I missing?

That's a good list diva. I have mostly all of that on my list as well.

Here are a couple add-ons.

needle/thread/safety pins
exercise bands (sometimes there are not enough weights backstage)
extra towels (can be used for pumping up too)
vaseline (used on teeth when lips are dry from depletion.

Also, clothes that you wear to your comp. I highly recommend pants that do not have a tight waistband so as not to leave marks. Drawstring or low-waisted loose pants are good.

And having a rolling suitcase is better than a bag that has a strap so it won't leave a mark on your shoulder.

Also food that you bring to your comp. I cut my meat or chicken up in bite size pieces and put them in small baggies.

And I highly recommend the flip flops! I don't like to pump up backstage with my shoes on and you also could get hurt walking around backstage with all the weights on the floor.

oh yeah, I forgot the resistance bands!

I also tend to pack up an mp3 since bbing is usually on down the list of pre-j categories...and at the nightshow I can put on my earphones and walk through my routine...(and then get pumped up too early by the staff and forget my routine...hahahahaha)

Diva...I brought my mp3 with me, but I had NO TIME to listen to it with figure and bb'ing! I was either changing or changing! lol! But yes, I agree totally on the mp3. It helps to ease your mind and stay calm (a little).

hahaha yeah the multi-taskers would have a little more to do and worry about than someone in one category...

but if you didn't want to listen to music you could be like me and a lot of the other competitors and text away like a mad woman on your cell! hahahahaha

I'll have to try this one...I usually just lay into my water bottle when I'm done but this may help more for the next day when I wake up feeling like I went out all night drinking

Two copies of tape / CD of your posing music.

Vitamin box for any pills / supplements you take before and day off (and backup box, in case you lose the main one.)

Small luggage lock for locking your stuff up (in locker if there is one or just a compartment to stop casual walk by theft...).

Camera!!!

Thanks for your input Randy.

That is a good reminder about the lock for your luggage. That is pretty scary! I didn't have any money in my luggage, but just leaving your suits in there with other stuff is not worth to lose.

My checklist is SO long. But that's what I do is makes lists for everything. I'll have to find it, b/c it's not on this computer. Alot of it is probably stuff you don't even need.

Ok...I've modified it some already. Also with the new airline regulations I'm guessing you can't take some of what I listed on in your carry-on.

Carry-On
Suits: prejudging & night show if bbing or 1 & 2 pc if figure
Make-up & Vaseline
Pro-Tan or tanning product and oil plus applicators
Couple pairs of latex gloves
Curl iron and/or flat iron
Blow dryer
Hair: Clips, rubber bands, bobby pins
Jewelery
Hair spray
False eyelashes
Bikini Bite
NPC Card
Camera
Cell phone & Charger
Nail polish
Sewing kit: thread, needle, glue, safety pins, extra rhinestones
CD player/music or MP3 player
Resistance bands
Mirror - might not have many backstage to check over makeup.
Routine music if bbing
Cooler w/food in Ziplock bags (diet, carb up and don't forget some candy!)

Pack
Spare towel-dark, face & bath (I like a couple actually)
Spare sheets & pillowcases-dark
Extra tanner & extra sponges, dish
Comfortable clothes
Comfortable shoes, flip-flops
Make up remover & loofah
plastic silverware and dishes if you don't like to eat w/your hands.
Bronzing powder
Clothes & shoes for shoots
Back up suits
Back up routine music (if bbing)
Lotion to even out streaks
Latex gloves
Change of clothes for after the show
Razors

*whew* Women are hard to get ready! I usually print this list off the week I'm leaving and start packing. As PC and IG are aware...you still forget something like stuff you don't usually use: hairspray!

Oh I also pack candy but several time I was told, "Leave that home! You can get some when you get there!" I still sneak some anyways.

KidRok listed Pedialite and Randy listed a vitamin box and luggage lock. I'm going to add those to my own list. I've brought my vitamin box but never put it on the list. Also IG mentioned luggage with wheels which I LOVE! I have a set of three in increasing sizes and the smallest is what I bring as a carry-on with my cooler as the other. I have a collapsible cooler that is small enough for food and it looks like a big purse, I can usually put my wallet in them and put my purse in my checked luggage.

Ok that is about all I can think of right now. Hope it helps.

Edit: I bring two sets of sheets because when I'm getting protanned up I try not to get any on the carpet or bathroom so I stand on one set while someone tans up my butt and I sleep on the other set so I don't have to pay for a ruined set of sheets.

Lynx,
Thanks for posting. Since I have never competed before, these list will be great when I need them. My gosh, lots to pack.

This brings up a question.....do you ladies normally arrive at prejudging with hair and makeup done or do you wait to get ready there. I ask bcz last time I competed we had time to get ready there but looking back that seemed a little risky.......especially since everyone was crammed in there.......just wondering what everyone else does/did..

Franny, I would get my hair and makeup done before you arrive at the venue. Typically here in Co., there is a competitors meeting b/4 the show begins so you would probably wanna be all dolled up beforehand.

I usually have the full base put on and then go back and do lips and touchups...but since I'm bbing I hardly ever have to worry about being up first...

Good points, I'd rather be there ready to go instead of freaking out that I still needed to make up my face. I guess even if figure normally goes first at least I"m in the taller class, which still doesn't buy that much more time but ya know.

i always just want to get to the venue asap and once i am there i can relax.
i suggest getting to the venue very early so you can grab your spot and set up your stuff.
i usually do my hair and my foundation/concealer/powder at the hotel before leaving. then once i am set up at the venue the balance of my makeup goes on. since i get there so early, i am always done with my face just as other people are arriving. i feel a lot better and do my face much better when i can concentrate and relax.
