which dog food is the best???

I need to change my puppys dog food. Right now he is getting sick far too often and its only since I changed him food a little over 1 bag ago.

I have a rotwheiller/german sheppard mix. Hes 4.5 months old and about 50lbs.

I was using a large breed puppy called infinity or something like that. Its the brand name for pets mart here in canada.

What would you guys suggest???

I really only see the food as the problem. Hes thrown up about 4 times in the last month in huge quantities mixed with the shits so I think its time for a change.

iams has been good for us. they have a really good rep. we use "mini chunks" its for small dogs but im pretty sure the have just regular "chunks".

I don't believe there really is a single "best" food, although most vets and trainers have their own favorite. Eukanuba certainly looks good from a nutritional standpoint, but my German Shepherd seems to respond to IAMS better. Even just straight Purina isn't garbage, especially in their Puppy Chow. You probably just need to experiment a little and see what seems to agree with your pup the best. Good luck!

I use Canidae. It is all human grade ingredients, check it out.

Eukanuba, IAMS, Purina all have crap in them and are low quality.

Just to add....

If you are going to change your dogs food, do it gradully:
Week 1: 75%old food + 25% new food
Week 2: 50/50
Week 3 25/75
Week 4 all new food

If you get a good quality food like the Canidae, you will find that you dog will eat less (because he is getting more nurishment from it), his coat will look amazing, his teeth will stay white, etc.

I was on Pro Plan puppy, Nutrience puppy, then switched to Canidae after doing lots of research. The Canidae costs more, but my dog is worth it.

I decided to go with technical. My golden retriver has been on it her entire 11 years and shes doing great. I figure why not give it a go.

I will look into that food though ESTRO. When I look at the ingredients of regular dog food its really gross. Thanks for the heads up

I learnt to add daily some bread (rye or whole). it kept our rotties in prime working condition well up to 10 years old.

In the past I did a lot of research into this, I'm big into bird hunting and have a Lab that I wanted the best for. Basically there are three ingrediant that if they are listed in the first five on the label then the food is crap, nothing but fller. The three ingrediants are any variation of Corn, and ....., ......, LOL I can't remember the other two! After talking with numerous well know Lab breeders and Kennels in the US it boiled down to pretty much all of them recommending Exceed from Sam's Club(Members Mark brand) or the Costco type(Kirkland brand). Before that I tried Eukanuba, Science Diet, and IAM's...my dogs ate more and crapped WAY more on those than Exceed. When we switched they ate less and I found myself cleaning up less and less piles, but they both maintained there same weight and activity since...all for $21 for 45 pounds. Either way sorry for the lenght but thought I'd share my experience searching for the ultimate dog food!

My boxer and lab get science diet. I had them on Nutro but it makes my boxer shit so bad it's just plain annoying. The boxer can't use any of the cheaper foods because he's a pussy and it fucks with his skin. Bil Jac is supposed to be some good shit.

Royal Canine makes many "breed specific" foods and Anderson my bulldog LOVES it. They even shape the kibble different since bullies have such a hard time chewing their food that most of the time they end up swallowing it whole(hmmmmm kinda sounds like me???? ) Anyway I know they make a "Shepard" variety........good luck!

Science Diet for puppy then we moved to the Nutro Dental because our mini schnauzer has a tendency to build up tartar quite quickly. So far no complaints with nutro, but after reading gixxrers comment, I notice that yea for a small pup she does sh*t quite a bit. Got to wonder if it is the food.

Gixxer was it just your boxer was going so often and so much? Or he had the runs from the Nutro?

That may have been because high quality food are nutrient dense and require less food in bulk, Over feeding is easy to do with these comcentrated formulas, and it will/can cause looses stools or gas and vomiting...thats a nice topic to start the morning off!

IAMS has a terrible reputation for testing on animals, in other words they have cats and dogs in battery cages and they live their lives this way being testers, not humane so I boycott them.

I use Science Diet and have used Wellness (which is awesome) and Royal Canin.

Thumbs up Best dog food

I have used Innova puppy food and now the adult variety for my 2 y.o. Portugese Water dog which was recommended by her breeder and she loves it and she is sooooooo healthy and full of energy! She also eats Mother Hubbard brand dog biscuits! as her healthy treat!
